The shop where my car is at said the tranny is pretty noisy. I've noticed it was noisy with the clutch out idleing, but thought it was just the clutch plates spinning. Never noticed anything while driving. Going to get the car tomorrow, now its FI and if the tranny is in bad shape already it probably won't last long with the new hp. I've heard that there are a lot of issues with the 6mt just being noisy itself, and it's been working fine (no grinding, easy to get in and out of gears). So maybe there won't be any problems. its got 67,000 miles on it, I'll change the fluid within the next week. I'm a little worried, I haven't driven another G so I don't really know how much louder it has been than what it should be like.

The noises are 90% of the time the normal clunkiness of the 6MT. If it's not grinding, keep driving it.

like Sharif said, it should be fine, and the noise is probably just the normal tranny noise. Embarrassing, but at least the tranny itself holds up well with the power increase (unlike the infamous IS300 5-speed, where 3rd gear will simply break above a certain torque level). If anything, you'll have the synchros go bad.

Man it was a B I T C H getting mine unmounted from the engine. I actually spent like 2 hours trying to get it off. Is there a technique to splitting it up? I didn't want to stick a crowbar in there but ended up using a large screwdriver.

Good to hear everyone, thanks for the feedback. I'll pay more attention to it on the way home today though, just to make sure it shifts nicely and without any grinding.

Strictly from an old-timer's point of view, I prefer an AT. In the case of Zed
beasts, it so happens that MTs don't have a good reliabilty history, while ATs
have turned out "A#1"! So, if you live in a city, the AT's IT; also, it's got 274
ft-lbs of torque, vs. 260 (268?) on the Manual one. At any rate, I do recog-
nize young'uns would rather have it the "fun" way--MT.

I would love an AT on those days when I get stuck for a half hour in stop and go traffic, but that only happens a few times a year where I live, so the fun I have with an MT is worth it. Plus, now that I'll be FI I don't have to do any upgrades to the tranny (assuming mine is ok).

The problem I've been having for quite some time is that when I shift, it feels like I'm shifting without using the clutch. Getting in gear is tough (clunk) and the car jerks quite a bit, I even grind because of difficulty getting in gear (pump clutch pedal a few times). In fact, while standing still the car jerks and moves a bit when I try to get in gear while the clutch is fully pressed. Engagement is funky as if the clutch is sticking when I let off, so the delays jerks the car as if I'm giving it gas too early. I've had this car for 5 years!!!

The transmission was replaced in 2006. The first few months the car drove like a dream. It was buttery smooth, and the engagement was light and quick. Then it went downhill from there...

To get smoother and lighter engagements, I notice I have to press the clutch down faster and harder.

Is the slave cylinder going bad? Air bubbles?

Anyone know where you can get the latest versions of the trans from for a reasonable price?
