There is one thing that I would have done different if I could turn back the hands of time. The first thing I would was to join all the local Z clubs, in a 50mile radius.

But, when I started, I depended on the www/emails/telephones for aftermarket updates and recommendations; the problem with that approach is that you're never certain what you'll find at the end of the road, positive or negative; whether it was going to be a cheap or expensive learning experience (LE)

Once I began joining clubs I realized that I could actually see and feel the mods right in front of me; even tested them. The other benefit is that at clubs meets you can actually get a true sampling of a job well done by x-motorsports; which is the best way to get to know the quality finishing/cost/creativity/time frame.

At meets I would sometimes give away stock parts, for free; seldom charging for them and vice versa; as there was an instant that I gave away my stock LSD after upgrading to the Nismo's.

Preparing the car for drivability, controllability and stopping power before jumping to forced induction.

The LSD, FI, suspension, cross bracing, Rear Camber Arm, wheels, tires, exhaust systems, brake system were some of the best upgrades decisions I made.

I kept my plenum stock all throughout, till this day, and got it polished.

I took the conservative route when I took the FI direction with my factory stock VQ block; while many of my friends were upgrading their engine bolts and increasing factory bolt torque, I did not do a darn thing about the head locks. Case in point, I left the factory bolts and torque as is, because my head gasket was my fail safe device. Granted I blew my head gasket 4 to 5 times, but that was easy and inexpensive to repair; while many of people I know had blocks with windows through them.

 

I had a smooooth idle with my S1's, RC 750cc, and UTEC

I am also running HKS 1000CC injectors now, no more RC.

 

those injectors are bad ***...... why you say you "had" a smooth idle..you dont have it any more?

i didnt even had the intend to take this OT, after 5 pages i think everybody has a decent idea of what most regret (doing/not doing) after building their engines.....im basically just asking you on your newer setup....i like the fact that youve had the utec all this time with a smooth tune and no major issues with it

 

My car is going to be running some of the new Deathscherks 850cc injectors very soon. I figured these were more cost effective than the HKS's and would give me plenty of fuel to work with for my goals. I believe JT stated that they were high impedance injectors.

 

I don't regret anything but the 2 motors I had to go through..

Now all is good, I totally forget the problems I've been through, well worth it in the end. If I could do it all over again I'd definitely do some things different as Alberto stated, back then we just didn't know the limits of certain parts.

This just shows you, no matter how good you do a build you never know what can happened. Things will break when you push the envelope. Want something to run forever? Build a motor tune it for 8psi and you'll have no worries but what's the fun in that?

 

Wow ok so ur the 1st 2 pretty much say no regrets and ur on the APS TT. Thats a good sign I guess. Keep it coming and try and stop going OT asking about peoples new set ups that u know wont tell u.

Come on man, some people have spent thousands of dollars to learn things the hard way and you can't fault them for keeping some of their tricks to themselves.

If you want real piece of mind you're going to have to go to a shop and pay them to provide that experience in quality work. There's no such thing as a free lunch in this business, as it seems you've yet to learn.

I have GTM turbo cams. How are they as apposed to JWT? I regret not building and going TT from the beginning.

 

I also regret whole heartedly the RC 750cc inj..

 

Too much injector? Or the fact that they're RC's?

Seems like everyone hates RCs, makes me wish I had gone with DW's instead.

Funny as it is, I have had no problems thus far with engine. I admit I should of went turbo but I also think about how many engines or problems I may have experienced.

Stillen is good if you just want street legal power, no boost gages, and the tease of car's potential.
