I thought about buying a T adapter and running it on the driver side coolant hose that goes from the bottom of the radiator to the port in front of the temp thermostat.

Something like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GREDD...spagenameZWDVW

Then just plug in the water temp sensor into the adapter...hook up your gauge and voila.

Not really sure if it matters terribly which side of the radiator, but I'm sure someone will chime in with the answer.

Let us know how you decide to go.

Wanna place the pick up at the inlet to the radiator. Coming from the engine it's the hottest the coolant temp will see.

Passenger side upper hose is the inlet to the RAD.

but which direction does the coolant flow? from the passenger (cold) side thru the engine and out the driver side (hot) to the radiator to get cooled? or vice versa? this is the only missing link. this would tell which side is hotter and where to place the sensor for the gauge..

If your standing in front of the car and looking into the engine , the top hose , passenger side is the return to the radiator from the engine.

that is where I placed mine. split the hose, put in the adapter and installed the sensor. Pretty straight forward

Mine are about 140-150 F during cruise and 180-185 F in traffic. Only cooling mod I have is a Nismo thermostat and cap.

You could use a Blitz coolant hose which has a port built for this.
