Luie,

Do you have a complete list of all mods and parts into your car and motor?

You said your fans were wired all wrong..........

by chance, were they wired in a manner so that it did wierd things with the fuel level sensor...........I've seen that on another car.

Just some thin wires that caused the fuses to blow all the time, and some loose connections.

Why is air building up in the coolant system. Boost shouldnt leak through... And i dont really believe 10kmiles is long term...! Sorry. THink about it, thats probably $4k per mile so far....

edit: Oh and dont take my post as an attack. Ive had builds before and thought everything was hunky dorey, then something happens really premature and it changes your views quite quick.

Luie,

Any thoughts on eliminating the potential for methanol backfires?

Would love to see any pressure relief plates/valves installed. The Cosworth is a work of art - would hate to cut into that. Where else though? Have you thought about changing the W/M ratio?

Luie I think this is a great post for people to learn from. As to your maintence of the car I think it's great. I myself have done some of these and have 30k on my car since I boosted it. Granted at a much lower level of boost, but I'm still on a stock motor and 9 psi with a total of 60k on the car and still going strong.

Nice honest write up Luie...

I know that Luie is going to make a separate post about the stuff he had done in Indiana, but to address a few things that have been asked.

-Every cylinder tested with in 3% of each other on the leak down test. Every cylindar was with in 1-2 psi on the compression test as well (135psi on 6 pumps). So looks like the engine gods had mercy on him when he blow his plenum to pieces.

-It looks like by changing the BOV to a different model that allows air to bypass it while the motor is in vacuum has stopped the meth backfires and fixed the whole limp mode thing. Not 100% sure why, but we have some ideas...

-The fans were completely rewired with a heavier gauge wire and the relays were replaced with heavy duty stuff. Again not sure why this happened, but over time the smaller 12 gauge wire was developing a lot of heat and caused the relay contacts to fuse together not allowing the fans to shut off when they were supposed to.

-I can vouch for Luie when he says the drives his car hard. These 10,000 miles are more like 50,000 miles in terms of engine abuse. He floors this thing almost everywhere he goes, takes it to the drag strip almost every weekend, and runs his car hard at every road course that he can make it to... He has already ran through 4-5 tanks of meth (3 gallon fuel cell) in 3 months. It took me 3 months to run through 3 gallons last summer with the same meth setup! This is a testament to Sharif and Forged Performance and the quality of work they do over there. This S1 long block had passed the test IMHO.

-Oh, and even though Luie shifts like Alberto's sister, his new toy will take care of that!!!

This will help you understand why 10K on Luie's car is considered "Long Term."
On your car....10k may mean nothing....but on his car...if his motor was not done right, it would have blew up like his plenum did. A few months ago..luie was trying to buy a motor (but he had seller troubles) to start another build. So its obvious to me that he has been trying to see how much this motor will take before blowing. Well it looks like Louie has a new found respect for a Forged built motor. D@mn...you cant buy this kind of advertisement anywhere.

Well, at least, calculate correctly. $4k per mile * 10k miles = 40 MILLION DOLLARS.

Sharif, tell me it ain't so! ha ha.

Actually this must be the deal of the millennium then, because you too can get a $40M motor for way less than $4k, right here:

i make the best effort to change the oil every 2k-2.5k as well and the engine runs strong as hell.
