Default Detonation....Knocks and pings sigh

Well I got my car back from GTM with the new blower installed and a new tune with water/meth injection. As some of you know, the first time I got my car back from Sam, my car was knocking REALLY bad with the 2.87 pulley. Sam had to take alot of timing off and it still was slightly knocking with single digits in timing.

I installed a meth/water injection kit and GTM redid the whole setup the right way haha, swapped the 2.87 for a 3.12 pulley and did a retune. My automatic put down 356 Whp with the new tune and it was not knocking at the time of tuning (colder weather possibly) . Now Sam noticed my car would still knock near redline if I WOT the gears from a stop. It would only do this if my car was idleling but it wouldnt knock at redline when I let the meth work for a bit in low boost before I WOT to redline. Sam took a tiny bit more timing off and now It seems fine. Well....getting to the point....I had serious detonation issues with the Stillen and now even with Vortech, still have minor amounts. My car has been a real pain in the *** to Sam and me, I probly have something defective with my motor.

Sooooooo....Ive already gotten new plugs, best tune possible, meth/water injection starting at 1 psi. Anyone else have any tips to reduce/eliminate knock? 91 octane and meth still isnt cutting it on my low boost car.

wow. Sorry for all of your problems. Even with the meth your numbers seem to be low. Hope Sam gets this resolved for you soon!

FI will give you headache at times, Knock is not good. If you only getting a knock near redline I suggest to just avoid hitting it for now until problem is solve. Im sure he told you to avoid redline regardless with or w/o knock with a stock bottom end. My car hits peak power w/o the meth at 6k on 7.5psi so no need to redline to get more...

G/L bro.

You are running Meth and timing to a single digit and I assume a little bit on the rich side on the A/F and still knock? Are you sure it is knock? what kind of meth mix are you running? Are you using the same gas station?

+1 Are you sure that the knock sensor is not picking up noise from the blower and reporting false readings? Maybe it would be worth your while to change the sensor?

356 with a 3.12 is right on. meth doesnt seem to do much for supercharged cars.

I had some false knock at low rpms sometime. I started spraying at 2psi no knock ever in high rpms. And I gained 21 whp and 9 tq with the meth.

Nope, it just sounds cool when you say "My car has meth injection"

Im running the 50/50 pre mix boost juice at the moment. EMS is the utec tuned by Sam, several several times. I dont know about the knock sensor on the utec but when it does knock near redline its very audible, we can hear it even without the headphones Sam uses while street tuning. When the engine does knock near redline its VERY obvious. Sam said this is only the second car he has worked on that was so sensitive to knock. I tried changing gas around through alllll the different major brands, but usually now I use Shell or Chevron premium 91 octane.

Anyone have any more ideas on how to squash this knock nightmare? would mixing more meth into the pre mix help?

timing is not in the single digits anymore with meth, its more around 17-18 i think near redline from what I saw on the laptop. AFR is a stable 11 to 11.2 at wot according to the innovate lc-1. AFR has changed alot since I got the meth.

o yea, for some reason ever since I got my meth and the blower swap, I have a hard time starting the engine. I would say 1 out of every 4 start ups are difficult. Never had this problem on the old blower and pre meth.

Sounds stupid but you can add nitromethane to your meth mixture, I know that it can be purchased online I just can't remember where. Still it would be a bandaid fix at best. I have been reading your threads, I wish the best of luck to ya on this as I know you have been dealing with a lot of crazy issues with your Vortech for awhile now.

Did you try removing a few deg of timing on the knock area and see if it makes a difference? Post your knock settings and post some logs so we can look at what the stock ignition is trying to do..

Either retard timing a bit, or add more fuel.

His A/F is low 11's and that is with Meth so I would remove timing first rather than add more fuel...just my .02
