TN wastegate relocation issues
Hey guys,
I just got my turbo kit in after a month and a half of waiting. Started putting it on and everything was going smoothly until I came up on the pipe that was I told was redesigned for a different wastegate location (PN 21184). I was wondering if anyone had put this different pipe set up on yet and if they had any problems. I think that I was sent the wrong pipe, but turbonetics claims that it is right. Where the wastegate would attach is tight up against the radiator fans and there is no way I can see to get everything situated in place. This is my first turbo installation so if I have something mixed up let me know (besides the screwed up heat wrap), any input would be great.
Thanks

all all of your pipes mounted in their permanent locations yet? is the uppipe already mounted to the A/C compressor?
You should have plenty of room in there.
also, do you have an aftermarket radiator (i.e. a really thick radiator)?

No, nothing is mounted in place yet. This is the first pipe that the instructions say to put in place. This is the pipe that mounts to the a/c compressor and I am able to get it in place, but then the wastegate flange goes stright into the radiator. oh, and the radiator is stock.
Put that pipe in later. Theres no reason for that to be first.
Its not mounted right which is why its not fitting.
My suggestion, Place the turbo in its spot first and then install the uppipe and downpipes first and then move on to the other things. once the downpipe is bolted to your exhaust and the tranny, it will hold the turbo in its spot and once you put the uppipe on along with the wastegate and crossover pipes, that turbo will be still

Yeah, I understand what your saying about doing the turbo first, but if this is the wrong pipe it won't matter when i mount it, it still won't fit. Are you installing one of these new kits with the redesigned wastegates? If you are let me know what your pn21184 pipe looks like when you get the kit.

I haven't personally installed this new variant of pipe but apparently it can be a little confusing to get it oriented right.
There was another thread on this exact issue a while back and the guy thought he had the wrong pipe too, but it turned out he just had it installed the wrong way. I'll look it up.
Edit - here is the thread:

I believe you bolted the up-pipe to the wrong AC bolt. It shouldn't be that close to the radiator...especially if all is stock. The up-pipe does go in first. If not, the turbo will have nothing to rest on. It is this pipe that supports most if not all of the weight of the Turbo. Good Luck.
^+1 there is a drilled and a slotted hole on the up pipe and you have the drilled hole in the front bolt of ht ac compresser move it to the back bolt hole its the right pipe i just installed mine three weeks ago didnt have and fit ment issues,

P.S. If you think those plastic zip ties will hold your heat wrap on to the exhaust pipes you are sadly mistaken. Try metal zip ties or safety wire as an alternative.
The plastic will last just about 2 minutes after start up, then, bye, bye.

Peaches also look into extra heat wrap on the downpipe and A/C line. DEI sells good heat wrap you can use for the pipes and A/C line and as Rrmedicx posted use safety wire to hold the heat wrap in place. The zip ties will PHAIL once the pipes heat up so use other means.

yeah I thought that the heat wrap that I bought was adhesive but obviously it wasn't I have some wire ties now.
As far as the pipe goes, as soon as I removed the bulky counterweight in the front it fit great along with everything else I put on after that so far. hopefully I'll have everything back together tommorrow night. thanks to everybody for all the help. tommorrow night I'll post up some pictures of the counter weight so future people won't have this same headache.
p.s. ed and reggie at turbonetics are really helpful and both helped out alot with this problem. thanks guys
