Traction advice for a student on a budget....
Ok,
So please refrain from the typical "You pay to play" comments, because I am well aware of this. I am in search of some recommendations for a traction issue I am currently experiencing....
I went FI in March 2008 with the TN single turbo kit on my daily driver. Great Power and fun! No SERIOUS problems luckily *knock on wood* (just some codes and a leaky valve seal) However since then I've decided to return to school, and I'm cutting down my finances since I need to focus on school and not work as much. Before I had some 20" Axis Matrix wheels with a 285 tire in the rear. But I needed money to pay some bills, so I sold my wheels and got into a smaller, inexpensive set (18x8.5 Ruff racing 279 - 245/40/18 all around) And needless to say the traction is pretty terrible. I can barely step on it really... Kinda stinks, but it was pretty expected.
So my question is: What tires would you guys recommend for these wheels for better traction and cheaper price? And what's the largest size tire you'd recommend on a 8.5 wheel (I've seen folks fit 275 tires on a 8.5 wheel, but I don't know how safe that could be) Any input would be TREMENDOUSLY appreciated. Thanks guys!

Not sure why this question is unique to forced-induction. Tires are tires whether you are running 200 or 500 horsepower. You can overpower any tire.

Oh! I forgot to mention, I was running some Nankang NSII tires. Not the best, but it came with the wheels... I was just curious if you guys would happen to know what the largest size tire I could run on a 8.5 wheel and what tire

Well I thought I'd give it a shot in the FI forum, since most FI guys may know some remedies for this (since I'm sure the majority of the FI guys have traction issues
) But thanks for the link!

) But thanks for the link!Performance vs dollars is an important consideration for all members. Members with big bucks will pick a tire like the Pirelli P-Zero. For those of us on a budget the BFGoodrich g-force T/A KDW2 will offer similar performance for 40 percent less dollars.

I've heard good things about this as well. like close to 100% traction on 2nd gear at 500whp range.. or something ridiculous like that.

Sell those pizza cutters and buy some 10.5"+ rears. Then get some R888's on there. Also, buy a camber kit to adjust out the camber and get some coilovers to dial in the rear suspension.

I had good sucess with Kumho MX's in 275 width... But I was NA then, so its hard to compare.
Now I'm running Exclaim UHP's, also in 275, and they are useless for 3 gears.
