Default Why is the procharger so expensive?

i just got off the phone w/ ATI and they told me the procharger was like $5496...isn't the greddy kit gonna be in that price range (6g's)? I thought supercharger was the more reliable/cheaper alternative to turbos...to make matter worse she told me the price is goin up $500 in August!!!

I've seen them go for about $5000 from places listed on this forum and my shop told me they could get it for me for $4500. Even at $5000 that is a great price. Think about what you are getting. The SC and mounting hardware, a huge intercooler, fuel system upgrades and all necessary hardware. A front mount intercooler alone on the turbo side of the fence can cost upwards of $2000. and for the power it's making, it's a great deal.

Umm. That's a pretty good deal for a car's that's been on the market a year. Remember, they've got to recoup all their R&D costs. What makes it a better deal (at least to me) is that the install is MUCH less complicated. No need to pull the motor, everything bolts right in, etc. Where you're REALLY going to save is the labor costs. Every turbo set up I've seen for the Z has the turbos underneath the motor--meaning you have to pull it and that takes MUCH more time and money.

Besides, ATI's claimed 20 more rwhp than Greddy is.

Superchargersonline.com has it at a pretty good proce too.

Make sure you are getting the "regular" kit and not the "tuner" kit. The tuner kit is a little cheaper but doesn't come with the fuel management goodies.

The reason why it's so expensive is because you called the manufacture directly. They have to sell it at MSRP for many reasons. You may just want to contact a company that distributes the Procharger (like us). It’s usually the same exact kit, and you usually get better service, pricing, and help when you use an outside vendor that knows what they are doing.

i dont know, but i have heard that superchargers put more wear on the engine because they are constantly putting boost into the engine... as opposed to turbo's where they kcik in at a set rpm that is eaisly adjustable with a boost controller.. with a super charger you have to switch the pullies...

am i way off?

Yes you are way off. S/c work under vacuum so you do not see boost all the time. It sounds like you may have turbo’s mixed up with s/c'ers. S/c'er are the ones that work under RPM speed, where turbo’s work under exhaust gasses. The only thing that sounds correct is the fact that turbo’s have adjustable boost with a controller, which may lead to boost creep. With a s/c you need to adjust the pulley to get a different boost.

Well I think the dude with the wierd spider head is thinking more of like the roots type superchargers, versus centrufigal that slowly increase boost.

Why don't you shrink down that spider head pic and make it your avatar instead? It takes up an awful lot of screen space....

Default Superchargersonline

The Dr. is correct, Superchargersonline has great prices. I ordered mine last week and recieved an excellent deal from Tony. I emailed/spoke to 5 other vendors, the price varied by about $400. I chose the fully polished kit (IE intercooler and blower) It was a little more expensive but well worth it IMHO. I would give Tony a call before you make a purchase.
