I only put about 600 miles a year on my car though, but I still have a sleeved block.

Dude, I am beyond sorry to hear about this. I went through something on a MUCH MUCH smaller scale, and it made me want to push my car off a cliff.

I'm still at school at Clemson, so please hit me up when you come back down.

Really hope this works out somehow for you.

It is really sad to hear it ..I'm sure all the Z members wish you to stay with Z. But idk man, i would part out everything and move on to other vehicle. Something has plenty of power/boost motor and not too much $ to repair stuff...then you can beat the c*ap out of it anytime...That's just my opinion...Good luck man.

The money is "lost"

We all know modding cars isnt an investment. The thought of not recooping even 60% of mods and the cars value makes me sick to my stomach. Id almost rather own a fawked up Z then go out that way.

On the flip side I feel like I dont want to spend another dime on this car/another setup, etc.

There is always something to break with me/my driving habits. Even if I put a basic block in, Id have to worry about the life left in these Greddy turbos at these boost levels. Then you start debating upgrading them (nothing IMO has been proven worthy), changing kits, the labor associated with it, retuning, workin gout new kits quirks etc.

THEN....even if I do all that Id be like I am now, scared to go to the track and nuke a transmission, or have to spend more $$$$ on a cage to legally run at tracks IF the car holds up.

Its too much setup for my own good I feel like....

I get the impression there are a lot of people out there that share that sentiment.

People get idea's in their head about wanting XXXwhp, an awesome dumped suspension, super high end ICE, etc. and when its all said and done, the reality is not like what they imagined and they're left with a very temperamental car. So basically, the idea is not as good as the reality.

Damnit man that blows. There is just not reason for a motor to fail like that given the miles. Yea I'm curious to see how many sleeved cars are still out there. Thats one thing I avoided like the plauge when I built my motor.

I got a text today giving me a heads up on this, I don't even know what to say, all I can tell you is that I truly feel your pain and know exactly where your head is at right now.

The best advice I can give you is the same that you gave me a while back, get the car home and just ignore it till all the hate and hurt goes away. Then, come back to it with a calm and clear head and decide on the best course of action.

I would hate to see you part out, but fully understand if you decide to go that way. If you need to go out for a beer and just vent about it all, just tell me where you want to meet up. I will even drive my truck down so you won't have to see my car.

Alberto thats why your the man. You PUSH your car not let it sit like everybody else. If I had a car like yours I'd beat the **** out of it just like you. Seeing issues like this makes me realize that boost isnt for me. If I'm going to put my money into getting 700hp I want to be able run 700hp when ever I feel like it not every once in a while because something may go wrong. I really hope you figure something out with the car. Goodluck man.

WoW!.. iam speechless ..
You are right.. the money is " lost "...
At this point, you have been through too much, just dumping a whole lot of cash again, is definitely not worth it. If I were in your position, I would take the car, cancel insurance, leave it as is for a while, to at least give you time to think. I wouldnt touch it. At this point even parting it out.. your gonna loose. Just like you said, the value of the car just outright SUCKS...

What sucks the most is seeing you leave the platform/community.. you are probably one of the only guys on this forums who drives a built Z like it should. SOOO many "crazy" builds on this forum, I have yet to see them making a video of driving the car like you do. All your videos have amazed me and WOWed me. All the other crazy builds are just dyno queens. Your Z is the only Z worth watching in history of Youtube.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to do Alberto!

Crazy.. I literally was just watching your vidz b4 i even saw this thread. Sux to hear this happen to you. With all the money put into these/your builds it better be able to take a beating like a champ.. I hope its just a simple failure(if there is such a thing) and not head-lift, gasket, etc. I better look into this fan issue for my build.

I would hate to see you leave the Z community cause i learned a lot and you were one of the people that gave great advice to me, and one of the few that actually drive their car for what its made/built for, but i understand completely if you do.

Right on for the most part. I can deal with a HARSH suspension, iand tires that feel like you're rolling on hockey pucks, if the car handles good, it does.

I can deal with squeeky, annoying, having people look at me like "wtf this idiot cant change his pads?" brake pad compounds if it stops me with authority from 160+mph - they do.

I can deal with driving 600 miles and smelling the AAM fuel lines sweating gasoline vapors into my head making me sick and making me want to murder XXXX @ AAM if the lines feed my engine, they do.

I can deal with open dumps and instant headaches if making nasty power and having fun, I do that also.

I can deal with this APS 3" TD that is soooo loud I cant hear the stereo unless its turned nearly to max in all its OEM speaker $hithole glory.

For those that may not fully understand me its not that I am unrealistic, I have traded tons in this cars driveability and comfort to have 600+whp

Its the $25K builds and $10K rebuilds and upgrades that go along with a rebuild that FAIL time after time, promise after promise, that I cant stand anymore.

Wise words which I will stand by, and LMAO at that last part Chris that is nice of you and it cracked me up.

Thanks AJ, for people like us who constantly push cars, less is MORE

My GF used to have an 06' Z with bolt-ons, suspension, nice wheels/tires. It was slow compared to my car but you couldnt get me out of it, it was soooo fun its its purest, simple, NA state. So much easier to handle on backroads, it was EASY. It truly made me jealeous to drive it.

I can understand now FINALLY why soooo many members - Luie comes to mind the most - can own a beast setup and get so fed up with it they lose stupid amounts of $$$ and walk away. Everytime I see his 12.3 @ 116mph sig for his new M3 I used to think " 11.1 @ 133mph owns it, his Z owns that M3 with bolt-ons"

Now I am envious he rides in a car that handles awesome, looks good, stops well and is QUICK. Much more driver enjoyment at the cost of brutal acceleration. And he never has to worry about the tranny, engine if his car starts, etc....only problem with this is whats the point of owning a car that wont excite me like my Z?

Its all part of growing up and getting older, but how will you feel the first time someone comes along side of you on the highway and then shows you nothing but tailights? IMO, its how you answer that question that will hep you choose the path you want to take with the car - or possibly another car.
I'm of the same mindset as Mike and Terry, it doesn't matter what car I have, or how much it costs... I am going to do stupid things to it to make it faster, louder or prettier. I have a feeling that you are wired the same way.

You may be of the age now where you surpress it for a while and concentrate on other things like family or your career, but trust me, the urge never really goes away. It just keeps nagging at you till you give in again.

Saddest part is I dont even flip out when the car fawks me over, Im so used to it I almost expect it and in turn am not surpised.

Soooo much money to make things right and I get a motor that may not have made it to 5000 miles this time.

Question is now do I bring it home let it sit for like 5 years and go at it again or do I just part this POS out and walk away from the platform. I cant justify spending any more $$$ on it anytime soon.
i know the feeling bro. the last thing that broke on my car was the clutch, preloaded, launching at a weaksauce 4500rpm. ive gone to the 1/4 mile track 4 times in the last 3 years and something broken 2 out of those 4. a poorly built motor by builtzmotors burning 4 quarts in 500 miles and letting a rod loose. i just expect the worst now and i dont flip out either when something breaks.

maybe i'll stick with my power level instead of going for more power like i had planned for the near future and hope nothing breaks. i thank god for my daily vehicle. i highly recommend buying one for any of you who decide to boost any VQ car.

i know this is about half of what you've gone through, which is mid blowing to me cause im at the last end of the line for this car. if something major breaks again im done.

whatever you decide to do berto, i hope everything works out well for you. maybe some good luck is around the corner cause you've used up all the bad ones already.

I am wired that way. I dont own anything that isnt mod'd, it wont stop ever.

My father always tells me "when are you going to learn and grow up?" I always smile and tell him he doesnt understand, but then something breaks and he says "I told you so" and IM left looking foolosh for the decisions I have made yet again. Nothing in my life is as rewarding AND depressing.

I have definetely calmed down a lot in relation to the car, but I have picked up other hobbies-riding being one of them-the thought of a Ducati or new RR entertains me, but at that point I wont be blowing motors I'll be turning myself into a gimp.

You are right when you say I want to focus on other things because I do, at the same time I have come this far, why not just pause the project and put it on hold....soooo many choices, none of them cheap!

He speaks the truth. i remember after my 300ZXTT bad experience i gave up on modding cars. My wife told me i changed alot and wasnt happy as i use to be. I fought it for 2 years, i avoided looking at cars on the road, blocked speed vision, etc...lol... But the harder i avoided it, the more i missed it. I then bought the Z and said i was just gonna do wheels. Next thing i know im boosted and now building. Thats why i never buy new cars for myself cause im just gonna mod it eventually. I been then way since i got my licenses and i bought my 1st car (now that was a slow POS..lol). For me it always starts with a simple drop-in K&N filter , then its downhill from there..lol..

Now i just take my time instead of jumping right in. Im building, but not rushing. I actually took my HKS head gasket/pathefinder cooling mod money and ended up at Babies R Us and Walmart this morning and bought my daughter some toys instead. Sure it means my build will take longer but what can i say, my Daughter OWNS me .

Have you thought of just getting rid of the sleeved block and simplifying your build down a bit (if that's an option for you)?

Alberto, sorry to hear about this. Hey, look on the bright side, both of your motors lasted longer than my first one, though I'm the one who screwed up mine.

If you don't part out, maybe get an unsleeved motor with a billet girdle...

Your experiences have me reflecting on how hard I want to push the new motor (4.0 L). I was going to shoot for 750 whp. I may back that down to around 650 whp to try to get more longevity out of it.
