Forged Performance: Another Time Attack Victory and a class record at VIR!
Hi everyone,
Just want to share our latest accomplishments in the Redline Time Attack series. We continue to build on our early success, and the car, and the nut behind the wheel are getting faster and faster.
Coming off podium finishes at Nashville, and Summit Point, the Forged Performance Team was hoping to keep the momentum going at the final and Championship round of the Redline Time Attack Series for 2008. The season finale took place at the spectacular Virginia International Raceway, arguably one of the most prestine, yet challenging race tracks in the country. For those of you that have not been to VIR, this track is wicked fast, and a great variety of turns. In three sections of the track, the fast cars see speeds in excess of 170mph.
This was my first time at VIR, and unfortunately, the Koni Challenge GT and ST cars hogged up most of the track time. This meant that teams had basically a handful of practice laps, before heading over to the official timed laps....the only ones that count for the competition.
During practice on Friday, our car was running very strong, but gradually started to fade towards the end of the day. We discovered a developing exhaust leak at the turbocharger exhaust housing inlet....a leak that was getting louder and worse by the moment. With boost and power dropping off rapidly, we were under the gun to get our timed laps off before the turbocharger decided to take a dump.
The car could have gone much faster, but thankfully, the turbo held together long enough on Sunday, to set the track record in RWD Modified class, the Overall Modifed Victory, 1st place in Modifed RWD, and a 2nd place in Unlimited RWD.
I can't thank our sponsors and the team enough, for their great work in making our first season of Redline Time Attack, a success. Racing our shop car, gives us incredible insight, and technical knowledge that carrys over to the cars we build for the street. The engine in our race car, is the EXACT Forged S1 Shorblock that we sell to the public, and it just completed it's second season of track use, and will be used next season as well.
