Default How accurate is your Wideband?

I have the autometer wideband in my car. I am just wondering how accurate these things really are. Its telling me at WOT that im getting 10.4-10.9 but I it was recently tuned for mid to low 11's.

My AEM wideband reads ~.5 lower then the wideband on my tuner's dyno at WOT.

So, tuned for 11:1, I see 10.5:1-ish

Its common, and I wouldn't sweat it. You should take the car back to the tuner for another pull with a/f to confirm, if it really bothers you.

It will depend on the placement of the wideband....before cat, after cat, etc

The question is how do you know? Unless you run two (and there can be a 5% discrepancy side to side in A/F) and compare? For statistical significance, I think if you placed 10 on each side and performed a least squares analysis of the readings, you'd be able to then identify those widebands reading with some level of precision and perhaps accuracy relative to a projected theoretical linear output.

Or you could just buy one and free air calibrate it now and again.

I am running UTEC which imo is a pos...if you thinking about going FI I would just invest the money into a full stand alone. There are not cats on my car. I can believe you can see a .5 difference in the readings. How are you suppose to get accurate readings from this thing if it looks like its always running pig rich. The lowest this thing reads is 10 I believe. So i guess ill never know if im running pig rich.

Did the weather/Temp changed the last time you got the tune? I'm asking coz most tuner don't really set the Temp Compensation in Utec or sometimes over compensate.

nope there has been a 5degree temp change since I got the car back.

well..the reason im thinkin the car is running rich is b\c of the black smoke my cars pours out and the over abundent smell of fuel any time i touch the gas at idle or while driving...shoot if I hold 2k rpms at idle and leave the windows down you will almost choke on the smell of gas in the air

So maybe your WB is accurate since you are blowing black smoke... If your tailpipe is clean and no black smoke and you are reading 10.0:1 then it could be just your wideband. Go back to your Tuner..

My innovate is pretty dam close to the Utec. This is with the sensors about 3" from eachother. At WOT they both say 11.3.
I just have to reset it once every 2 weeks or so because it goes nuts.

IMO, unless you are tuning, get an EGT gauge (multiple cylinders if within budget) and just monitor the wideband for significant fluctuations.

Main issue with widebands is people hardly ever recalibrate them, the innovate calls for recalibration every I think 3 months/3000 miles pretty much like an oil change.

Who does that?... other then me?

I have never re-calibrated my innovate and it is pretty much only .1-.2 difference from my Tuner. Granted my Innovate is on my passenger side and my Tuner is on the driver side.

Both TXS Tuner and Innovate can be free air calibrated. Unless you are using them for closed loop operation (feedback), what does it really matter so long as it is in the ballpark?

When I recalibrate it, I do it in the morning before I start the car, without removing it. Its still dead on.

/\I lost my manual and forgot the steps but how do you do a calibration again for the Innovate? I know you can calibrate it without removing the 02 sensor.

hrmm.... i was just hoping that I was not running rich b\c my tuner is a nice lil drive away... just wanted to see how much of a difference one could expect from the wideband and an actual AFR reading.

I know I am running rich my tips have a sick amount of build up on them. Anyone know the steps to recalibrate the autometer wideband? I do not have the manual for it.
