Default AAM couldn't tune a lawnmower!

Only time will tell how mike pulls this one off. Let me explain what's going on. Around June time AAM rebuilt and tuned a supercharger for me. While the supercharger was being built I had issues with the quality of work they did, my idler pulley just fell off on my while I was on the road. What was scary about that is when I brought the car back to them to recheck the work they did one of their mechanics told me that this was the third time that has happened and the guy that keeps messing up still has not been fired! After getting the whole supercharger issue taken care of I kept telling Mike about the hiccup that I kept feeling through out the whole RPM band. He told me that some cars just do that and the Utec was a bad engine management system. Well on my way to work today while driving in my neighborhood doing 45MPH my motor blows, I wasn't even in boost. When I call Mike up he begins to give me the instant shop disclaimer "the car had problems prior to me tuning it," but the car didn't. See what he fails to realize is that the day before bringing the car to him I had a compression check and a leak-down test done at a local shop. Mike tells me that if it was something that the shop did to cause the failure they will replace my motor, I'll keep yall posted.

that sucks. Do you have a receipt or something from the other shop showing that you had a compression check and a leak-down test done? Hope everything works out though

You should kill yourself for taking it to them in the first place..

You deserve it just for that reason.

I hope you learned your lesson!

Jeezus man.. As time goes by it looks like more shops FAIL. We should have an updated regionally based shop/tuner list with my350Z testimonials which will not be biased..

only way a previous leakdown and compression will help here is if the failure was due to broken ringlands, damages rings, blown headgasket.... basically anything that can be detected with those tests.

If the engine failed due to a broken rod or anything those tests cannot verify then you wont have much luck as it could be argued that the rod was weakened before you took the car to him and that it eventually would have failed wither way.

Your right, that's the bad part. I always give people the benefit of doubt. I do have all the paper work showing the results. I'm certain that the motor gave because of detonation due to an improper tune. As I stated before in one of my other threads, my A/F ratio's have been all over the place and he was well aware of that.

It is a good idea....but I'm not sure if such a thing would be allowed here?

What a shame.. The thing is since new users are advised to search old posts to see what works and what doesn't a newb might find a thread with a shop that is local to them and go to them without seeing or reading the horror stories. Case in piont I've been looking into AAM and now see this. Looks like i'll be heading to NY or MD or GA now..

Hope all is well UMW!

A lot of stuff gets deleted and/or locked, which makes it harder for newcomers to find relevant information, even if they browse dozens of pages of posts. This happens too frequently to keep sponsors happy, but they pay for the site so that's just the way it has to be I guess. I wouldn't be too harsh on the newcomers though...

I know the politics of the forums, but one search for AAM reveals many threads in the Mid-A complaining about them over the past few years, and thats just in the local forums.

Im not being harsh, it just puzzles me how he would take the trip from VA Beach to AAM with other options in the area. You cant save them all.

He made a poor choice of shops to go to, no need to be an a$$hole to him. The guy could be out several thousand dollars and all you can do is laugh at him and say he deserved it.
