The freak motor comment we seriously think it is, you guys dont even know the **** this motor went thro. When I had my fuel leak issues, I hit 15:1 a/fs under full boost load. The car was picking up knock left and right, I had a cracked intake manifold that caused the car a lumpy idle making the fuel pressure wig out. The compression test on the motor last week averaged between 146-148psi cold. I bought the car knowing the motor was on its last days, it was a project. I started chasing all those problems down fixing one a time and here it is today. My point is good fuel system, good managment system (pro-efi or haltech) and a good tuner, these motors will last making decent power. Keep the maintnenace a priority and the VQ will treat you good. I am sorry this turned into a flame fest, but dont question others abilities unless there is no proof. There is alot of guys on here that lurk around the forums who know their stuff very well but just dont post much.
My build am doing is not even extreme, I have a set of custom je pistons .20 over 9.8:1 compression wpc coated pistons, eagle (going with pauter instead) rods, stock sleeves, all the arp hardware, cosworth headgaskets etc... The single setup am going with is something similar to the powerlab kit, except am using a borgwarner s366 turbo and cjms twin pump setup with a pro-efi system. Hopefully I will have it ready in 2009 and I will push it, sometimes simplicty works.
Thanks
Moe

hope it lasts long, I personally think the 9psi 400hp rule is overly safe but I don't have anywhere near the experience that the vq shops got. I would prefer a 12psi running 450 to 475ish and see how that lasts since that has a remote possibility off lasting a while imho. whens the last time someones blow a motor under 400, can't remember it so I feel its time to slowly push it. I might do it in a few months when the economies a little stronger for the inevitable blown motor opt.

who is a good tuner in the denver area? hopefully going FI this winter and was going to bring it down to be tuned.
awesome thread by the way. i was wondering how much the elevation(~5300' here) would affect a turbo z.

I remember in my RX7 days, the argument was no stock motor could make 400RWHP on stock twin turbos. Then a guy did it and ran 10's. Not saying it would last like that being abused all to hell, but he made the numbers and dragged the car pretty regularly. I believe he eventually went on to a bigger single because the stockers were dying at 15+ psi.
Very nice videos!

Well, so far about 2 full tanks of gas and its still in one piece 80% of the driving has been 40-140mph runs. Let me tell you going sideways intop of 3rd gear on the hwy is plenty fun......stay tuned for the dvd another week.
