Default Intercooler If Filled With Oil

New Greddy TT kit w/3000mi on it. Pulled off the drivers side piping off the intercooler and it's filled with oil. It's go to be comming from the turbo seal. Where else could it come from?

Could the crancase be pressurizing and in turn pressurizing the turbo oil return lines forcing oil out of the turbo seals and into the intake piping?

I pulled the plugs and they are not oily. They are covered in dry black carbon, but not oily.

Drivers side valve cover vent line is oil free.

WTF!!!! Discuss!

I haven't pulled the pax side couplers of the intercooler off yet. That would be the first point it splits and hopefully I can narrow it down to one side.

The car doesn't make any noticeable smoke. No one at the track ever reported anything. But the rear bumper is coated with this brown oil film.

Why would the seals go bad after 3000mi? That doesn't make any sense. Could it be crancase pressure?

When my seals went there was for sure smoke coming out of the exhaust even at idle. Could be seals could be a crankcase issue. I would replace the PCV valve or better yet get rid of it all together and make sure the driver side hose connected to the valve cover is not kinked. There is going to be some, but you sound like there is a lake of oil in your piping or something

Anycar where I saw seals go it smoked like a steam locomotive. I'm sure there may be cases where it doesn't.
Pull off hose at pcv valve, see what it looks like.

are you using a light oil? like 0w or 5w? A colorado member had this problem with his TT kit when he changed to a light weight oil. If i remember right it went away when he changed back to 10w-40.

OK... I pulled off the bumper and removed the intercooler inlet pipes from each turbo The drivers side has alot of oil in the pipe. The pax side turbo pipe has a little.

I can't imagine both seals going bad within 3000 mi of new. Something must be causing it. I'm thinking crancase pressure pushing up into the turbo oil drain lines. Anyone think this is a possibility? Wouldn't someone have experienced this before me?

PCV valve was replaced about 150 mi ago. No kinks in the line. There is a lake of oil in the intercooler.

I am using Motul 300V 10W/40.

I have definitely heard of blow by causing excessive crank case pressure and in turn causing oil to be pushed past turbo seals. check for kinks or blockage in the drain. I highly doubt the turbos are hurt unless your feed line wasn't properly sized or blocked. Also If too much oil pressure is fed to the turbo it will push past the seals, does greddy include restricteres with the kit?

Lastly a leak on the compressor side wont smoke unless the oil actually makes it past the throttle body and gets consumed, unlike the turbine side were a small leak will smoke like cheech!

good luck man, I'm sure its a small problem.

"I had a collapsed hose coming out of my catch can into a breather filter. I put a better hose and a new filter on and I havent puffed smoke in 2 months. Also I use to have to add oil every 3 days and the oil levell stays the same now. "

Previously posted this in another thread. I know I still have oil in the intercooler but just waiting for time to clean it out. Im still now puffing smoke or burning excess oil. Jet check to make sure your crankcase is venting right.

Crankcase pressure...especially with all the heavy tracking you do with the car. With all the pressure, you are having issues properly draining the turbos, and I bet some oil is getting by the seals.

Did you have this problem as well?

I just emptied out my pcv catch can and there was about 3 oz of oil in there. That's alot for about 20 laps of Sebring.

At my last event, we drilled out the PCV and the driver side breather, and just ran hoses to our catch can. I rigged it up really fast since we were rushing out the door. Really kept the engine bay nice and oil free....seems like its working! Typically, there is a bunch of oil oozing out of the spark plug holes, and little orifices after a brutal track beat down.

Edited this sentence for mispelling. Sorry
