5/8" ID is pretty large. What is the OD on that hose?
It's 5/8" standard heater hose - the same size as the stock hose that comes off the rear driver's side port. It is a space occupying hose for sure. That's one of the reasons putting a breather on the back there and doing the plumbing up front makes more sense.

EDIT: I should add that I haven't data logged with the reverse set up so I don't know for certain it will work the same, but I will be doing that soon... perhaps this weekend. I'm not sure how big the hole is coming out on the driver's side port - do you know Terry? The PCV looks to be a 1/4" hole after being drilled out.

I don't know. I haven't seen my valve covers in 16 months. I can't beleive my car has been down this long. Oh well, we now finally have the motor. With the block modifications to close the deck, the billit girdle, billit main caps and billit crank, this thing should be stout and easily hold up to 750 whp. (I'm knocking on wood).

Thanks str8dum1! I wonder why they made it so small ID with a large OD? You don't by chance have any pictures or can you describe the kind of baffling for the various ports, if any? On the passenger side as well? And the center tubes? Do they all look the same from inside the valve cover?

That was really nice of you to take those pics. Thank you! So that hole is eccentric inside - interesting. Perhaps a part of the baffle. It's nicely askew towards the bottom which means oil dripping down can drain back into the valve cover. That's what I needed to know. A right angle or 45 degree 5/8" hose adapter or molded hose will do the job perfectly to keep oil from dripping out of the breather.

Thats a good idea I just bolt the breather right on there it may drip oil onto the DP. I should have saved the K&N part number for everyone, my bad

any breather will work with a lil heat gun massage. I just have a breather back there, never seen any oil on it and its been like that for ~2 years.

If I forego the oil catch can and just put a breather on each of the valve covers, how noticable would the fumes be inside the cabin? Would the fumes be much more noticable in comparison to using a setup like Raj's?

str8dum1 just had breathers on and I'm pretty sure we could see gases escape here and there and that was just idling...

I think it'll work just fine, especially for a race car. Fuel content in oil may build a little quicker is all but frequent oil changes will take care of that... My catch can plubming has a fuel smell (up close) that permeates the heater hose primarily, so I think it's doing it's job there.

I have just a breather filter on the driverside without drilling out the valve cover and have no issues at all. Now I was thinking about doing the same thing on the passenger side and just capping the plenum. What are the draw backs to doing this?

No positive ventilation - just passive venting. Blowby contamination of oil. That's all I can think of.

Could someone link to me a suitable check valve for the 3/8 vacuum hose coming off the plenum? I think that is the only part I'm missing...

I stopped by the auto parts store, but the only ones the had were really small with zero chance of a hose clamping to it... Is this a part I can pick up at home depot or some such, or do I need to order it?

Just for the record, I have reversed my set up and it works just fine (4 mm Hg vacuum at idle), with less clutter and shorter hoses. I have a breather angled up on the driver's side rear port. I use the passenger side port with drilled out PCV for all the "suction activity".

Thanks for logging that!

...a second check valve is not necessary with the APS kit, right? I'm trying to look it up, but I'm guessing the APS BOV is not recirculating?
