Default Factory warranty still good if turbo kit taken off?

Hey all,

I was wondering for a 350z that is covered under factory warranty, was turbo charged but then taken off, if any engine related problems would still be covered under the warranty. Also, what are some possible problems with an engine that was turbo charged (for maybe 5-10k miles) but is now N/A and what are some ways to tell if a 350z was turbo charged at one point?

Thanks!

Pass on buying a 350Z with forced-induction at one time. Problem solved.

I would not even consider buying a used Z that was is or could have been turboed at some point. There is no real way of telling but for all you know that 5K miles of turbo could have shortened the life of the engine considerably. Either buy a new one or a low mileage Z from a dealer with a complete service history.

Are you buying this car from a Nissan dealer? Have a leak down test done on the car....if the result is good...then the price you should pay is the going price minus the cost of replacing the motor if it fails. For example...if the going price is 15K and a new motor installed is 5K...then you should play 10K..

If you buy this car form a Nissan dealer and it states Warrantee....it will be covered...if it stated no warrantee....then you know whats up.

Good luck

The car is covered under the 100k/10 year (i think) factory warranty and has under 35k miles on it. It is also being offered at a hell of a good price; it's the one in the for sale section with the person moving out of the country. I want to stay away but the price makes me want to do otherwise. Also, if I did look at different cars from a used car dealership, normal dealership, and/or private sale, would it be possible to find out if that car was previously boosted or not?

the dealership doesn't know what they can't prove.. if you remove the turbo kit and everything is back to stock.. no special fittings.. no catch cans.. no breather filters.. no stainless steel lines.. no special filters.. no bigger oil pans.. no return fuel systems.. no upgraded radiators.. basically looks like stock.. and is stock.. then the dealership can't prove it without tearing down the engine.. which they won't bother doing

Its hard to tell especially if everything was put back to stock. The reason I asked if it was a Nissan dealer is because if they told you it was covered...you are good to go...even if they knew it was once boosted.

If the car was once boosted and you did not buy it from the dealer BUT it had a warrantee and the motor failed and the dealer took it apart and found rods bent...lifted head gaskets and any other boost related side effects...they will not cover it....

Dang I'm in a rough spot... the car is such a good deal and I've been looking for a while and could only find prices close to what he wants for a base 350z with higher miles. Also the warranty is always a huge plus. I just don't want to regret it if I do buy it or regret not buying it at such a good price. Would it make sense for him to have an emanage system if it was never boosted?

He said it wasn't, but the emanage computer and gauges makes me a little skeptical.

My bad about constantly posting in the wrong section! I've never been 3/3 on moved posts before and I've been in a few forums before.

Also thanks for everyone's responses! And Doug for being nice?

Is there a boost gauge I have seen a stock car with an emanage.

Well...I dont know what else to tell you but take it and get a leak down test...that will give you some good info of how strong the motor is

Who is the seller...is he a member... I am sure if he is a member...someone on here could tell you whats up

There is no 100K factory warranty from Nissan. The 350Z has a 3 yr/36K bumper-to-bumper and 5 yr/60K powertrain warranty. Neither of these will help if the dealership finds the car has been modified with a FI app. Maybe you have an aftermarket warranty sold by a Nissan dealership, in which case, caveat emptor...

Caveat emptor indeed... in regards to the warranty it's an extended warranty, I had a 100k/10 year on my 2002 nissan sentra. That bugger lasted forever though.

Thanks for the info on the leak-down test. I was going to have it inspected, leak down tested, and compression tested. Do independent shops do these or should I take it to a reputable nissan dealership?

if he had a boost gauge hooked up.. the manifold might have extra taps in it and hoses for vacuum lines

Awesome, thanks for the great info Doug. Sorry if I asked a couple dumb questions, I've never had any experience with any sort of FI vehicle, whether it be after market or stock. Hopefully the vehicle checks out so I can join you all in the Z club! I do miss the old 280z's though and I feel bad since I destroyed my dad's when I was younger.
