Default vortech setup help please..

hey everyone, i kinda posted this in another thread but wanna start its own to get more feedback...

so im considering buying a new tuner kit with v3 blower and 3.12 pulley upgrade...now do you think i would be straight with getting a walbro 255 to drop in and keeping stock injectors and using a utec for tuning, until i get enough saved up to step it up to a 2.87 and get some injectors and a re-tune.

pretty sure i would be ok with this setup as people are running the 3.12 with stock injectors and the supplied vortech inline fuel pump with ss box, just wanna make sure the utec can tune in this situation..thanks for the input..

Without a FMU you will need a bigger injector with Utec and walbro.

Yes, but since you are going to upgrade soon then just get a 550 or 600cc. My DW 440cc is maxed out at 380whp.

good lookin man, def. should just do that, but i am concerned with getting hard starts due to the larger injectors or having any codes..550's are probably something i would consider, i just know people arent having any problems with the 440's.

Like athenG said get some 600cc. I have 600cc Deatchworks and they are great. Supercharged setups require more fuel then Turbo setup.

You will have hot start problems with 600's you get used to it, you just bump the throttle when you turn the key.

And as far as codes my Z through more with my procharger then with current TN. Most are misfire which is normal for FI.

There is no way around the P0300 code coz you will get them with 1 step colder plugs and bigger injector. I do get the P0300 error every now and then with my 440cc so going with the 440cc wont eliminate the misfire code. I only get the misfire when starting the car especially when the car died while driving or very cold outside. get an ODB2 reader coz that will be very handy for clearing up codes.

alot of people are not getting the codes though with vortech...i can't have any codes coming up...so in that case what if i went with stock injectors, walbro pump, fmu, and utec with the 3.12 and of course one step colder plugs...then i shouldn't see any codes i was under the impression.. i can do that with the utec right...just use the vortech fmu so i can keep the stock injectors and use a walbro 255 and still tune with the utec?

but with the codes u guys ar getting...how often and are u having problems with inspection time..im in upstate ny and need to be plugged into the obd port and if i have any lights on i fail, and can't just clear them and drive there, it has to go throught the cycle and be completely cleared, this is the whole reason i sold my turbonetics kit to get away from throwing codes, ill take the lack of power if i can get a reliable setup that doesnt throw codes or have problems...

I live in NY and I just past my inspection. The timing was bad coz my car was error free for months and finally on the month of inspection I started getting P0300, P0507 and P1273 code coz of the colder weather All I did was just clear the code and drove my car for a few days and once the ECU finished all its test then I was all set. Like I said get an ODB2 reader coz that will tell you if all the test has finished and ready for inspection.

I noticed that I get the P0300 code when I shut the car down and start it again(worst in the winter). On the week of my inspection, I just made sure my car wont die when I'm driving (I have a 6mt) and avoid shutting the car down and starting it withing a short period of time. Sometimes I can have a full month without getting a single error.

No, my tune is perfect!! lol what I meant is letting the clutch to early and the car dies. My clutch engagement point is very low and my clutch is also stiff as hell so sometimes I get lazy and lift the clutch to early. This doesnt happen often but my wife sometimes drive my car and everytime she give me back my car I have a P0300 ERROR.....

whatever problms you had with a turbonetics will be the same potential problems with a vortech. the centrifugal blower is just a belt driven turbo. some cars are extra sensitive to random misfire codes. good chance you'll see those again with a blower.

i wouldnt even think of doin a 2.87 pulley without a 600cc injectors, fuel pump, at least UTEC and a return fuel system. I was way over 90% idc without my RFS and now with an aggressive tune I'm at 90%+ IDC with my RFS and 600cc injectors. Blowers are very inefficent on gas at higher boost.

You really shoulda kept your turbo. turbonetics to vortech is a very lateral move with a big hit on gas mileage.

i never even ran the turbo, thought about it then got rid of it for a vortech kit, i don't wanna deal with throwing codes all the time like i said, and it seems the guys running the 3.12 pulley with the complete vortech kit with stock injectors are not getting codes and if they do its p0300 and they clear it and it goes away and never comes back or comes back once in a great while, so i can deal with that, idk, i just opted to find a vortech since i could do it myself in my garage and didn't wanna tackle the turbo kit install, easier install, tuning, and saved me on cash which at this time is not too easy to come by..

The error is not a big deal, I only get them maybe once a month, and if I do get an error it is 98% P0300. Dont worry about the inspection coz you can always clear the code and drive it for a few days and you should pass. This is my second year passing the inspection with my turbo.

I don't have any codes on mine anymore. I'm running V3 Vortech SC (revup), 3.12 stock pulley for Revup, upgraded 440 cc DW injectors, 7:1 Vortech FMU, Vortech Aux Inline Fuel Pump, and Unichip.

No problems whatsoever and now I've got about 6K miles with no codes and lots of spirited driving (previously had Bank1 AFR prob code from running rich but got it worked out). Runs great with no issues whatsoever currently.

i've had a P0300 code since I was NA with all my major NA mods.

I think it was my cams though, because I actually have changed pretty much every single engine and drivetrain mod on my car since then - intake, vortech, intake manifold, cats, exhaust, clutch/flywheel, crank pulley, ECU flash from TS and AAM, piggyback, standalone EMS. I've reset the ECU, cleared the code with a OBDII unit, etc
