Default Procharger Oil Change

I have just over 500 miles on my ATI Procharger and it was time to do the first oil change. Since I had some time this 3 day weekend, I also got the chance to slap on ZAINO layers 42, 43. and 44!

Electrik Juggernaught has already changed his Procharger oil and he mentioned that he removed his strut brace, a couple belts and the intake tube.

Being the lazy impatient man I am I figured there had to be an "easier" way.

Go here for a full step by step with pictures.

Don't be so hard on yourself Doc, you can't be that lazy.....look at all the forums you post on! .......but seriously, i had already partially stripped the head of my plug a slight bit, so you know how that goes.....drastic circumstances require drastic measures........somebody might find my procedure useful if they happen to do the same thing, though.

I noticed that you feel that your whine has decreased after the oil change.......i'd have to say mine sounds just as loud as before.....which is good, cause i love that sound........the import kids always give me these awe-stricken looks when they hear it .......it's great

Congrats on a successful oil change Doc!

With all of the metal flakes I got out of the oil, a bunch of guys over at Frenzy are saying I should change it again in about 1200 miles instead of waiting the full 6K. What do you all think?

I think you should call the ATI tech line and ask them if thats normal, and for a course of action......i didn't have all that stuff in my oil......it was just darker than the new stuff.......i'm assuming from aluminum particles mostly

In the manual it says to clean the magnetic plug of any metal debris before your reinsert it so I assume that this is pretty normal to see metal flakes.

I think I may just do this again at 1200 miles just to be safe. How much could 2.5 oz of oil cost me anyway. Of course, I'm not sure how long these bruises on my forearms will last either! Maybe until the next oil change!

Default Kudos to you DB on a super job

Thanks for the ATI ProCharger oil change 101 primer, most informative. Considering the amount of filings found, I wonder would it help to have the first few oil change schedules stepped up, rather than to wait for the first 500 miles?

Sounds like you are having a hay-day with your blower, which makes me much more at ease to put my baby Zee on the operating table

BTW, is there a tool to reset the belt tension to the required specs?

Thanks teach.

I am going to try and suction the oil out. One of the ATI reps was present during my dyno and made the reccomendation to me. He said he was going to make a tool to suck up the old oil. Kind of like some people do with radiator fluid. It should be much easier

Will that be as effective in removing the metal flakes?

Default I would think so...

It works with radiator debris, plus there is actually a little metal dipstick that attracts most of the metal shavings already.

Needless to say the suck method did not work and so I used Dr. B's technique and it worked great. On the down side my car squeals for about 10 secs during start up. This has only started since the oil change so I am sure it is a result of something I did or didn't do. Any ideas? I felt like I followed th manual pretty well.

No, none that I saw. I thought about that. Maybe there is stuff I can spray on the belts just in case.

Erik at ATI thought it may be that I need to tighten the belt in back from under the car. However I checked that and it seemed tight. Did you tighten yours?

yeah.....after 3 tensionings the belts were perfect.....they stretched quite a bit after the initial install......its fairly easy to do if you drop the cowling on the bottom where it attaches to the front fascia
