My Engine and procharger issues

Belt alignment.. due to poorly manufactured brackets shredded two of my belts. Solution? Washers to push the SC out so it can be inline with the drive pulleys.
Idler Pulley Melted off while driving. after babying the SC for over 1000 miles.. Did two full boost runs and the damn thing melted off. i was over 120+ miles from home, and $teallin still made me PAY for the replacement pulley. They used a lubricant on the bearings that didnot withstand the heat from friction, although they came up with a newer version, they didnt send out recalls to exsisting owners. fukk them. ask any maxima owner on maxima.org. they have their share of stories.
then Supercharger seal ruptured ~7k miles after install. paid $450 to get it rebuilt. after that everything was running fine... Vortech Customer Service rules.. if you talk to the right ppl... i wish they would come out with a blower kit for the Z33..
these are only my experiences... i'm curious on how my new TT kit will live up... but like someone said.. every mod, whether it be a simple bolt on or big boost will always have its own sh-- factor built in. i had my sc for about three years. tracked it and everything. not the quarter but roadraced it. fun stuff when you can hang with a C5 or turbo'd silvia. (in a 4door FWD! heeh)
the only reason why i unloaded by SC on the Max was i didnt need it anymore with the boost i have now (will be getting) on the Z... but once you step over that line and actually feel boost? you will never want to drive another car again... its amazing feeling. i'm sure all of u will soon see the fun factor..
4 years is easily attainable.... but you will definately see your fair share of maintence.
edit: clarification. Vortech built the V2 blower for use in $teallin's designed brackets and hardware. using Vortech's FMU and with aux fuel pump.

Well, I have heard good things about Vortech, and they are supposed to be producing a kit for this car. I really only trust them or Greddy at the moment. Now, I am interested in PE and Top Secret, but not as familar with them. I really like that the Top Secret kit might be a single turbo kit, cause it has less things that can go wrong.

The guy who spends all that money on FI, then gets rid of the car a year later, isn't making a very good investment to me.

I agree it's a pretty big investment for some, but not many people keep a car after 100K when it's something new. Also, properly maintained and taken care of a SC'd car will last you just as long as an NA car. Anything built is going to take life away from the long run, but as long as you maintane the car properly you won't run into problems.

A co-worker looked at me funny one day and shook his head while he watched me put my exhaust on at work. He thought I was nuts for putting all this money into my car. This is the same guy that has a boat, 2 harleys, dirt bikes etc. I don't invest in any other type of entertainment but my own car. So personally I don't care that it's not a very good investment. It's all for fun!

exactly, when you are a gear head this is what you do, and most of us get bored w/ a project once we hit certain limits and it's time to move on to something new
The only things I could recommend besides obviously proper maintainance, installation and tuning if you would like it to last for the long run. Is to invest in a good oil cooler. High oil temps cause poor lubrication resulting in premature bearing failure.
I believe Cheston has commented on this previously, but that is one of the biggest causes of failures in FI engines IMHO. Running an engine too hot, blowby heating up the crankcase, reduction in oil viscosity and oil breakdown caused by excessive heat make a perfect recipe for main and rod bearing failure.

You could go Nismo, if you didn't mind paying $1250 dollars for an oil cooler that you could get basically the exact same setup or better for less than $300. But hey you get something that has the Nismo name on it. Sorry for the sarcasm, but it really pisses me off that Nismo can contract another company to build their oil cooler, put their label on it and charge 5 times what it cost to build.
N-tech's (www.ntechengineering.com) will be available soon. Part of the price is developing something that can be reproduced with a high degree of quality time after time.

I guess You can say I am biased against American cars (from my experiences) but I did not know the average mustang went 150K without any mods? All of my American made cars seem to have been pretty beat by about 100,000K.

Updates: We drove it to the shop yesterday, sat in traffic throughout the whole day, rain and more rain. Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied with the plan we came up with, both for the cost and for the performance of the car. We set our goals, spoke about parts we will be putting in, and it looks good so far. Work will begin on Monday, and will probably be completed in 4 weeks, I'd say 5-6 weeks to be safe. Anyway, can't wait to get it back, it's going to be alot more fun

Bill
Can you tell us the goal, what parts, what estimated cost (if we did it), and estimated hp? This is like a soap opera now. I need a little something everyday to keep the story going.
I'm a G owner that's been following this travail for a while. Ravaz, after your experience, I'm amazed you'd do any business with this same shop -xounds like a group of incompetents! If they screwed up the first installation, what will they do when they get in the guts of your car and more add on pieces?
Here are the list of parts we are upgrading so far:
JE Pistons 9:1 or 9:5:1
Pauter Rods
S-AFC
Lighter Flywheel
New Clutch (not sure which one yet)
14 Pound pulley
New Head & Main stud kit
RC Engineering 440 cc injectors
2 step colder plugs
Maybe some NOS, not sure yet
And a few little things here and there
My goal, high 400 rwhp, like 490rwhp. I'd be happy to see 460rwhp and up. I know 4-6 weeks is a long time, I really really want to drive my car now, but I can't, I have to deal with this. No use in getting upset over this. I'm pleased with the deal we worked out, and this is something that maybe we can all learn from.
