Default 350z VQ or HR

so i plan to get 350z really soon but i cant seem to decide whether i want the older VQ or the newer HR...i do plan to go FI as soon as possible but i just wanted to know which motor had better output once going FI...if i get the VQ i would probably go FI within a couple of weeks but if i get the HR i would have to wait maybe a year...my goal is to sit right around 400-450 to the wheels...and i plan to go ST...let me know what you guys think

Go with a HR just my opinion. Then save for your turbo kit.

You will end up with a VQ if you get a G or Z. But the HR version appears to be more solid and easier to boost if you go with a TT.

The HR motor is more of a stout motor for boost. The DE could not take high boost for very long without it blowing up on stock internals. If you built it for $15k and made it handle it, then yes it can easily. The HR has shown to handle the high PSI boost without any issues as of yet. 500-600 rwhp safely on a HR is common now while the DE could barely handle over 400 safely.

Seriously? Is no one paying any attention here?

HR is a VQ.

The VQ35DE motor will not handle the abuse that an HR will handle. 450hp is pushing the limits of the DE and RevUp motors. The VQ35HR motor will handle 450hp without breaking a sweat, and there is little to no price difference to bump up in size of the turbo to make 550hp. It's really a no brainer, in the long run the newer motor will give you more reliable performance for a small amount more in the initial purchase.

The VQ37VHR motor is still an unknown as far as power handling though it should handle even more power reliably, but then the price of a new car is quite a bit higher than a good uses VQ35HR car.

from the looks of your post, it seems like you have allot to learn b4 you even consider a turbo. you should start with the 100? thread, then build up to here. And FYI both motors are VQ's. One is DE, the other is HR.

HR motors w/boost have not been out long enough to determine if they are that much more reliable. More than likely the HR will be more reliable at 500whp then the DE , but I wouldn't go much further then that.

holy ****, i know is everyone here a newb?....the hr is a vq, they both are vq35, the DE is found in the older models and the HR is found in the newer models, In my opinion with what u stated, get a DE u will love it and especially if u wanna sit around 400-450 hp a DE is perfectly fine,. people jump on the HR bandwagon and have no idea why in my opinion..guess they think thats the cool thing to do..like i said the DE is more affordable and from the sounds of it all u need..FI is a risk on any car that is not originally FI doesnt matter if its a DE or a HR z or g..all in the tune

A DE will not push that power safely. The HR can easily like UPREV said. UPREV has seen many boosted DE's and HR's now and what he speaks is the truth. If you want to push a lot of power safely, on stock internals get the HR, if you want to push a little more power safely get the DE but you won't be safe over 400rwhp. That is pushing the DE to it's limits already.

Looking at the components used in the HR motor VS the ones used in the DE motors, with reasonably safe tuning 500hp in the HR is every bit as safe as 400hp in the DE motor.

Bad tuning, negates everything. But motorwise it is a very stout motor.
