Im sorry Jay, we can just agree to disagree. Sharif would not give out the code in any case. If you would like to call him up, go ahead.

I didnt lock the tunes at PF. It is just a company policy here at AAM.

I am just clarifying why people lock them. I really dont care either way and dont want to get drawn into any unnecessary internet forum drama.

Every tuner thinks they are the best tuner, thats just how it is...

And seeing the response from AAM, I believe there is two sides to every story, and I am sure the OP didn't ask nicely for the code.... that said, the customer is always right, right?

I just don't see the issue here?
You may not see the issue when your not paying for dyno time.. It takes longer to tune Built block bla bla bla...... Who says the tune cost 500? I havent met a tune that cost $500.. Most are 600+.... Zivman

True, there are two sides, so Im just speaking on the fact of the unlock for time saving/$$ saving a customer who left your shop... Im sure the OP asked nicely more than once... I read the OP... Did you..

I understand fully but you also said that its rude or unnecessary to lock the tune and not give the code out. Just wanted you to know that there are a lot of major shops that lock them. Its not uncommon.

Just also to let you know. When it is locked, it only locks you out of the tune that the tuner installed. You can easily just erase that tune and start over which is normally the case that i would do to retune a car. Most tuners wouldnt retune someone elses map because of the different ways people have of tuning. We have come up with our own base maps set up the way we personally like them to start with.

Again, i would like to see you go to another shop and call your tuner up for the code

I have the ticket, it was $21k and some change. Not to mention prior to this build I simply gave you the car and said Build me a car that will handle and push 900rwhp..... The ticket/estimate started at $13.5k, then built up from there when I was being asked about needed upgrades. I end up leaving the shop with 450rwhp? stuck with a tune under 4800rpms? $21,000 later? I'm sure everyone on this board here would be pissed when I was pushing 476 on my vortech setup before that for $3k..... You guys forget i needed a boost controller when I arrived by plane and charged me for that when i got there as wellll lmfao... Leave me with a 1 fuel pump setup so I couldn't push beyond 600hp. gave me 750cc injectors capping me at 750rwhp.... c'mon now. if I needed exhaust , you couldve told me early on. NOT the day I arrive via plane and say hey it'll be another $2000 for exhaust....I'll rant all day about this. The motors held strong besides a minor oil leak for over a year so kudos on that.... but really..... I made very valid points. and when I called I was very nice and asked very nicely, but when I was told its a "trade" secret and you wouldn't unlock my code for me? after spending that dough there? psssh first thought on my mind was who the F*ck is jeremy tibbs? All I wanted to do was speak to Mike, not clint, not some D-bag Jeremy who thinks he knows me or his ****. You gave me the worst attitude ever. Clint was very friendly on the other hand but nicely said no. I didnt care if i had to spend more money for another hr or two on the damn dyno it wasnt the point. it wasted a whole day and i had to drive home to try and find the old code when it couldve been done there and simple....

so yay all in all I pay AAM 21k for a 450rwhp tune below 4800rpms. Banging deal!

There are always 3 sides to a story.

When I read the op first post I thought the other shop was MRC.

All i have to say is this and i am through with this thread. I talk and have helped many people on this forum. I treat people with the exact same respect they treat me with. If you call here demanding me to break a company policy and get rude with me, i will stand firm and stand my ground. If you were cool and simply asked me for something or to find out something, you would get the upmost respect. I have had many great customers that will back that up.

I know you were frustrated about the locked utec but its not really a big deal. Was all of this worth the difference in a "retune" or a tune. I hardly doubt it.

In case you dont know who i am or what i have done, just do a little reading. You will find a lot of really happy customers in my past.

I chose to close my shop down, it got out of hand and i couldnt financially keep up with it without some serious financial backers like every single other shop has. Say what you will but i had fun, did a lot of crazy things and now its gone. I dont regret it at all.

I'm glad, this thread was never meant to call anyone out or bash them hence the "no names". You's decided to call yourselves out. It's been over 2 weeks and I've yet to receive a call or E-mail back from the owner Mike himself still. Does he not know about this situation? Or just doesnt seem to care. It was strictly to show my support towards sound performance and how they stepped up and earned my business.

You asked us for a quote to get the rest of the stuff done. We sent you the quote and you then called us and told us you were just going to not drive all the way over here and you were going to get it done locally. I dont understand why a follow up call would be necessary when you were a sponsored car for AAM and chose to go to another shop. I am glad you got it all taken care of and didnt have to make the trip. No hate or animosity when people go to other shops, that just happens sometimes. We will continue to build strong cars and make people happy along the way. Thanks for the thread so now everyone knows that the tunes are all locked and make sure you enjoy your car now the way it should have been done the first time around but was limited due to your budget at the time.

You act like I haven't ever payed for dyno time or tunes... I think I have paid for at least 4 separate tunes on my Z alone. I think I paid the following -> $400, $450, $500 and one cost me $700..... which average out to around $500. A lot of shops have moved to flat rate tuning and I believe most charge AROUND $500, give or take.

Speaking from my experience, I would expect my new shop to make me an entirely new map if I was having issues from a map from a previous shop... that said, it shouldn't be a big deal for the new shop modify one of their own base maps - obviously assuming they have tuned a VQ before.

Too much has been made out of this 'locked code'. I see no legitimacy on the side of the OP in demanding the code to unlock the map.
