Default hr head gaskets and studs

Hey guys,

all of those words are too generic for searching... soo, whats the latest word about using HR studs and head gaskets on 600 whp DE motor builds. I'm starting to collate a motor build list and by using those over the typical L19/HKS option would be almost 500$ difference, maybe more.

i know this was discussed in a few threads as sorta off topic sidenotes, but cannot even find those.

thanks!

If installed and tuned properly, you should not have a problem. I also used the L17 studs and had good success with those.

not sure on the HR studs(no doubt better than old ones on the DE), L17s are fine and proven to 906whp and better priced than L19s....
I would take those savings and applying it to the EMS

ovbiously finding a good tuner is very important.

I did the L19's with the HR gaskets on my build. I traded PMs with jkenefic about the combo since the L19s were already installed and he said it should work fine. Of course my motor didn't even make it to the dyno, so until I know the cause of my failure my advice may not be worth squat.

I am still partial to at minimum, the L19 studs trqed to 95 ft/lbs, but the stock HR gasket seems perfectly fine. Joe's engine has been holding really well.

Because 1 car makes 906whp does not make the L17 a "proven" solution for a high horsepower head stud. In my opinion, the couple hundred dollar savings on head studs compared to the increased chance of blowing a head gasket is no where near worth taking the chance. This is why you find L19s in most all of the mid to high horsepower builds out there today.
