Default turbonetics oil in intercooler and intake piping?

a few weeks ago i bought a used turbo from a friend in decent condition... after installing the car started smoking at first i thought it was my engine that i might of fried a ring or something as time went by the smoking increased i removed the turbo and found driping oil from the air downpipe to intercooler and more in all the tubing leading up to the intake..... i found no oil in the exhaust piping coming from my headers so please let me know if these are symptoms of my turbo seals going bad and if anyone knows who fixes them let me know turbonetics is charging over 400 just to replace the seals...

thanks

Bad turbos.....sorry you got stuck with the TN kit. I predict a viscous cycle of smoking turbos, and bad seals. Aside from checking all the usual things, like proper oil drain, I can't think of anything else.

Damn, so I take it I shouldn't even consider a turbonetics kit?

Im looking to buy a ST kit and I keep seeing TN kits for sale for pretty cheap, are they worth buying and then switching out the turbo for something better? Or just wait until i find a Aps in my price range?

^^^Neither choice is a good one^^ Don't even get me started with the APS Single T.

I would look at Powerlab for Single T, or Greddy, GTM, for TT's.

also someone else told me that it might not even be the turbo that it might be a block internal but how can that be if there is so much fresh oil in my piping but none coming out of my headers... how else will oil go into the intercooler piping if not thru the turbo...????? this guy i think knows wat hes talking bout but what do you guys think!?

I went through 3 turbo's in about 23,000mi with my Turbonetics kit. My turbo wasn't liquid cooled. I don't know if the liquid cooling mod keeps the seals from failing, but I wouldn't install it without the liquid cooling once it's repaired. You just need a rebuild. Try Forced Performance for the rebuild. I don't know if they rebuild those turbo's, but if they do I would send it to them.

The only problem with the TN kit is the AC line and down pipe. It is a good kit If you want just 400whp.

Did you use a spacer or did you drill your block? Most people use spacers so they don't have to drill there block. The drain line is very important on Turbonetics in drains off gravity. I drilled my block and have the water cooled jacket. Great power but no AC...

You didn't drill your block, you drilled your upper oilpan.

I only mention it so other don't freak out about drilling the "block". Because nobody would do that.

if the seals are bad, will oil get to the intercooler piping only in boost or can you see signs at idle also?

under boost it will smoke like a ****. If the seals are totaly out it would probably smoke at idle. Where is your oil drain going? to a spacer or upper oil pan? Because if the oil is not draing correct you will have blow by like u are describing. The line needs to be a sraight shot no bends.
