another FI clutch option: Spec Super twin disc
^^ Looking into a new clutch. What's your feedback bro. ATS might be the way to go. But I see a Spec Clutch for sale in the Marketplace threads, wondering if I should jump on it. I'm getting close to going FI here in the Mile High City...

ya I upgraded it to the ST model just becuase everything was out of the car for so long. The SS model was excellent on the street. For the money, I dont even know what to compare it to. It held 700DD ft-lbs just fine and was slippable at the stop lights.
I never had to start on a steep incline though and that makes me nervous with this new clutch. gonna have to learn how to ebrake start prolly
*but thats the same with any high trq holding clutch.

I've been f/i 400+hp on the stock clutch for 6000-8000 miles now.
Anyone wanna place bets on when I'll start to slip? But I have been looking at the ATS and OS Giken clutches too, but if it's confirmed that the problems with spec are gone, then that may become an option also.

i was going to use a spec twin before i got an amazing deal on this carbonetics.
I know these southbends have held just fine for some dyno pulls on high hp but there hasn't been a person running them long enough with extreme power to tell how long. Tom ran his at 650hp for quite some time so i would say longevity is good at that power level. His mid 700hp beast hasn't been on the street long enough to see if it will hold that much for any period of time. Maybe that guy will join the forum and we will find out.
well, the way i look at it their clutch design can't vary too terribly much between each clutch they sell. The domestic guys have great results with them.

If it means anything I'm running the same clutch. Had no idea str8 ran it (or is running it?), just found a great deal in the vendor classified.
The 5 puck probably is a little harder to drive I'd imagine, but in general I wouldn't recommend a single plate for high hp. I'm sure it's fine for a while, but you are putting more load on the thrust bearings with a single, which for a DD or street car is no bueno for the long term.
Spec has some bad reputation, but it also has worked on a lot of cars. I'm willing to take the risk.

the SS model I had originally was very streetable. The ST model I have now, not so much.
My starter doesnt engage the flywheel properly like once in every 2 or 3 starts. Probably just my flywheel though.

Bump from the dead, I have been looking at a Spec P-trim anyone use one lately?
Any issues?
How was it on the street?
How much torque did it hold?
Thanks for the help guys.

My ss trim held alot of power with no issues. I'm sure the P-trim will be just fine as well. Once my ST broke in, and i learned to drive with it, no issues anymore really.
I dont know what the differences are in the discs though. The rest of the clutch is the same across models.

Rich, Is that the clutch you still use?
I am between this and an Exedy twin, looks like the Spec holds more torque but this thread scares me.... a lot

Yup still on the ST model. Still have the starter miss the flywheel every so often though. I should have sent that back to spec when they rebuilt the clutch. I have no idea why it does that, but never have heard anyone else with that issue.

For about a 1000hp they recommended me the P trim, although they also said the ss would probably be fine (just for an over kill measure). I felt for the really minimal price difference it was worth it.
I am just done plucking around with this car i would have burned this thing to the ground if i put a new clutch in and it had issues, so I went with the sure thing and got the exedy I got it from GTM for $1200 so it was hard to pass up
I'm considering getting the ss model of this clutch, I see it's been a few years since you guys posted any feedback on them so I was wondering if any of you had any more input on them, especially those of you with the revised model. How's the stiffness of the pedal compared to stock, I'm looking for something that will be easy on my leg since I'm a little dude. And I know going with a 6 puck unsprung will be a disaster for me. My car is boosted at 400hp and want something to hold my power down the road at about 500-600 hp. Thank you in advance
