Default Do you track your greddy kit?

It was mentioned in a thread a while back that Greddy turbos have a high failure rate when put on a road course. I don't really want to get a big debate going on the subject, I just want to know if you track your car with a Greddy kit, and if so, how many times have you?

I tracked mine for 1 event and ran the car pretty damn hard with no issues. 4 sessions about 25-30 minutes each. I'll be going to Sebring this June for another full day of it. I know theres another person here that also uses Greddys and they have alot of track days on it with no issues also.. I also do alot of 1/4 runs so i DO use my kit hard..

Yeah I was hoping you weren't the exception. I saw your thread a few days ago. What boost levels did you run?

I haven't found any link related to the track and Greddy turbo failures. I did however kill a turbo in approx 3 sessions at Sebring. I sent the turbo to Forced Performance for a rebuild and they said they found metal in the turbo oil galley and that oil starvation caused my issue. I don't see how that's possible since the turbo oil supply is taken right after the oil filter. I'm not going to make any assumptions, but I'm not ready to believe the reason FP gave me. The other turbo is fine.

I have since switched to the GTM turbo kit with Garrett turbo's and water cooling.

Yeah I knew you had trouble with yours, but I never knew exactly what happened. I know Sharif went through a few 20g's (conversions?).

That was a M5 driven by one of the instructors.. That thing is modded and fast. I think it had about 500 to the wheels if i remember what he told me correctly. Like i said though a similar setup to me is running Greddys and i think tracking it for about 2 years now. I only know of JETPILOT having issues, but like he said it could be different reasons than what he was told.

I wont dispute that BB turbos are more ideal for the track, but Greddys still get the job done in my book. For my day i did a fresh change, and as a ritual (every car i ever owned) added some STP Oil Treatment, It may or may not work/help but i never had an issue and i drive hard and often. 1 thing i will say is i need a Turbo Timer to let the car stand and cool off more but thats on me not the kit...

Jason, youre a baller man. Just buy 10-12 18gs and have them sitting on the shelf.

Good call. Show up at the track with spare turbos, pit crew, and full blown race team setup and end up dicing it up with the c group for dead last
