I too had been through all that crap. I must have popped over 20 belts. Jay Z speaks the truth. Procharger setup sucks, go TT.

Just in case your wondering, my power level was about 400 whp on a stock block. The tune was spot on, but the belt problem just drove me crazy. The last time I slung a belt, it grabbed ahold of some other hoses, and i shot coolant all over the road, and almost lost control. Anytime you try to run more boost on the setup is when you see the issues. Here is my old dyno.

Actually, I really like my Procharger a lot. It has a great whirl sound. And my 2.5" dual exhaust puts out a nice sound. Oh course, I am not trying to be the fastest Z on the block. At 9 lbs. It's just right for me. I have an 2003 Touring with AT5 and the valve body upgrade. My Z chirps 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears and only popped a belt once.

Hey I notice you're from Maryland but I've never seen you around. I too have a procharged Z. Hopefully you can make it out to some of our meets!

Would love to, but I live in Garrett County all the way in western Maryland. Not too many Zs out here. I use to live in Frederick. Lots of Zs in Frederick.

Ok current procharger guys... I was driving home thinking about procharger cog belt slippage, lol! Then an idea popped up and the following...

How many of you run your belt on the underside of the Jack Shaft Tensioner Pulley? This position would give those running higher pound or PSI pulleys more surface contact between the belt and cogged pulleys. The JSTP is smooth with flanged sides... the way I see it, it doesn't matter which side of the belt makes contact, but I'm not a belt expert and that's why I ask. Will this new belt position degrade the life of cogged belt!?
If someone comes back and says yes, but only by say 25%, then its' worth picking up a few more teeth on both the small and large cogged pulleys! I don't have a procharger installed, asking questions up front, but would think the lack of teeth engaged slowly chews into the belt and eventually ruins it!?

And then I came across this
Post #5, first picture... look at the position of the cogged belt in relation to the JSTP.

Also, does anyone know where a AAM supercharger brace and be picked up these days?

Thanks,

bump, no one...

i'm going to assume most run the belt on the top side of the pulley then. 99% of the photos i've seen show belt setups on the topside. if i ever get one of these installed, i'm definitely going to try and run in on the underside, like the setup above. this shop, or i should say the installer, did a hell of a job fabing up some aluminum charge pipes! i'm going to guess he took one look at the suggested belt configuration and said WTF, why would i do it that way, lol!

i took a good look at the pic in post #5, he's picking up another 8-teeth on the big pulley and another 4-teeth on the small pulley!!

Ohh man this thread brings back memories. I had the highest boost cog you could get from procharger. It made about 14psi. I had a lame brace made from some schwag ford part at CP racing where Shariff started out. My mechanic saw it when I brought it home from Carolina and laughed because he instantly knew it was a ford part.

The belts break not because of stress but because the mounting bracket flexes. Procharger the company tell people its will support 500+ HP...how wrong they are. I actually bought into the bS they were selling and they just got annoyed when I called them out of it. they tried to tell me its was because the engine was not efficient

I had big cams, oversized valves, fully ported head. There was nothing I could do more to make it flow better, even had DC headers back then. I was dead set on making 500 rwhp so we eventually put a 75 wet NOS shot on it and boom we had 500 hp. NOS on a supercharger setup is sweet!..until the bottle runs out.

Ended up going Greddy TT.....never looked back. The only thing I really didn't like about superchargers is that all the power is right up there at redline and the TQ was always weak. With my TT you get full boost by 4k rpm.

I made 400rwhp at 13-14 psi with my procharger, and now make about 550 rwhp with my Greddy 18g TT at 14psi. NOt to mention tQ went from about 350 to over 550.

If you are happy with the power that's is awesome, but as most around here who have had a blower know it gets old real fast and you always want more. I tried everything I could to get more power. But after about 13-14 psi with the Procharger you are just blowing hot air.

thanks...

a lot of companies promise a lot of things... problem is, most out of box kits lack the prefect setup for the specific needs of an individual. that's why i feel it's up to the individual to remedy solutions or gather the parts needed to ahieve their goal.

i'm here in the procharger thread because i don't want a TT setup and the PC will fit the bill with my project goals. i want power in the upper band and not more torque than what's necessary 1-4th gear. i get off going from 0-100, not 60-175... i can spin 1st and some of 2nd with my current setup, so SC-ing to 350/375wtq will be just enough, even for spirited and short lived 50-150 runs

so, i'm seeing it more and more now. the belt under the pulley setup. i think the addition of the AAM bracket or some sort of turnbuckle mounted to the brace and motor will reduce this bracket flex. it seems the more people i ask, the more i find say they eventually ran the belt like this and it reduced belt slip and the belt actually coming off. not the best video, but a nice example of the belt configuration at 3:50.

aslo, in this video and the last posted video, i'm not seeing the bracket flex!?

You cant, they stopped making them and lucky if you find one used who is willing to part with it but even with that brace it wont solve the issue.

You don't use a different belt, you remove the idler to install the belt and it will fit just fine.
