Default Plasma coating: heat control, worth it??

Hi guys,

on Satuday I've dropped off my Z to the shop who'll be building it with forged internals and a PE TT kit (plus lots of ancillaries)

Amongst other things, I asked the owner to heat wrap the downpipes and fabricate heat shields for the 2 turbos, but he mentioned these guys:

Zircotec

He suggested to coat the hot part of the turbos, the manifolds (have the cast ones on the PE kit) and downpipes, although the cost would be relatively high.

My goals are 500 HP and 500lb/ft tq so I would call it a "mild FI" setup compared to many of yours, so what do you guys reckon?

Just go for the heat wrap on the downpipes+heat shield on the turbos or maybe go the full plasma coating at more than 3x the price?

I sent my stuff to Jet Hot and in theory it will help reduce the outside temp of the pipe by as much as 300*F, but I don't have my car back yet, so I can't say if it runs cool like stock or not.

What I have learned is that my powder coater had a similar coating that would have been much less expensive. You may want to check around your local area and see if a powdercoater near you could provide a similar service.

Be careful of doing the turbo housings, they will retain much more heat and could cause premature failure as well as void your warranty. All the research I did said that manifolds (outside only), downpipes and wastegate pipes (inside and ouside) are fine to get done.

I like the coated look much more than the heat wrap, but thats just me. Hope this helps.

Why don't you wrap the downpipes in clingfilm to save a bit of cash? What about replacing the downpipes with toilet rolls? Ask your imaginary friend at the imaginary garage what he thinks!?!?!

I would coat it.. I'm sure there are tests showing the amount of heat retention comparing the two.
Increases durability, does not retain moisture, and more importantly lower engine temps and increase in exhaust velocity.

Tried googling is for you, but no real information..

.
+1 jet hot.

Mine isn't turbo, but I sent my headers to jethot whie back since n/a. Coating looks like first day I received. Can not say anything about temp really but no issue so far. Hope this help.

Go to the Jet-Hot website, they have lots of tech info on temps and such there.

I say go for it, if I were in the UK that's where I'd be sending my stuff to be coated. Their performance colors coating is exactly what I've been looking for. I'll probably be sending mine to Swain tech for coating since I haven't found a comparable product here in the states.

I had the exhaust turbo manifolds Jet-Hot coated as well. Also wrapped the downpipes and purchased custom made turbo blankets for the turbos. Overall, under-the-hood temps came down drastically.
