Try unbolting the slave and see if you can get the clutch to engage. If you put the transmission into speed and bar over the engine, the drivehaft/rear tires should spin, if the clutch is engaged.

If the clutch won't engage, then you have a problem with the fork or throw-out bearing. Unfortunately, there is no inspection window on the bellhousing to see what's going on. I don't think you would be able to see much by peeling back the rubber boot at the fork assembly.

Saw the pic. Drop the trans. The fork is definately not installed correctly, or something is a miss in the bellhousing. That is so way off...start pulling!

Dear lord. Another hell with a transmission. I dont mind taking it off and reilstalling it but doing it on the ground by yourself requires some vin deiselness in your arms and patience. Sharif, you should hire me. If i can do this on the ground in 4 hours. I can do this on the lift, in 40 mins.

kind of hard to diagnose from two pictures... one would think you would know this since you can't figure it out and it's right in front of you?

i was being facetious in my previous post...but, good job taking it seriously.

Yes i have, and i even had 2 other z owners look at it and they didnt find anything unusual either. Everything was normal so i put it back up but now for some reason, the clutch grabs and it drives fine. I drove it around yesterday and it only grinded in 5th gear and i adjusted the pedal a little and now everything is fine.

weird. is the boot still compressed the same when looking at it? just a random thought, but is it possible there is a failing slave cylinder as (i think) alberto posted above? any pedal sticking to the floor type of action prior?

did you bleed the slave, and told you that adjusting the pedal might help

Adjusting the pedal didnt help the tranny issue. It helped the grinding issue. NO matter how you adjust the pedal, the slave should never sit like that.
