Turbo Kit by Peter Farrell
Well I've kept this quiet longer than I thought I would, but after visiting Peter Farrells today for my dyno (check other thread for results).
The reason we did the dyno was because we were looking at how well the Z responds to modifications, and if it'd infact be a good car to boost. After discussing what the market is currently like, Peter Farrell decided to continue with his turbo kit for the Z, but is still testing the waters to see if it is infact worth it.
The biggest thing when it comes to the Z is Peter is afraid of the Z becoming more of a "Honda Civic" market. He's afraid of product pricing dropping rapidly, such as ATI's procharger only being at $5,000. Peter Farrell's products are not cheap, but they are very high quality, realiable, and have a reputation to uphold, and we're looking at $6000 up to $8000 price range for the single stage turbo kit, which will yeild roughly 380hp @ roughly 6psi. The specifics are not out yet, as we have not put the kit on a car yet.. it's roughly 2/3rd's complete.
Basically, this thread is to see how much interest there is in this. Here is the break down
Price Range: $6000-$8000
Power Expected: 380rwhp - 350+rwtq
Boost: Roughly 7psi (will definatly be safe for daily driving)
Once again the kit is only 2/3rds complete, and still trying to find out if this is worth it.

Peter Farrell is a world famous RX-7 tuner, as well as IS300 tuner. He's known world wide for his famous RX-7's.. one of the best, if not the best RX-7 tuner. They also have a IS300 currently dyno'ing 610rwhp/626rwtq, which is street legal customers ride, which has 0 problems.
The reason to go with Peter Farrell is one, Greddy's kit is not even out. Nothing has been said by them. Honestly, I'm willing to bet they will drop their project even. As far as PE is concerned, so far their product seems to be good, but by what I've heard their price range will be around $9,000. Also, another major difference between PE and PF is that PE's kit is a twin turbo, oppose to PF with a single turbo kit.

Well I can assure you, if there is enough interest in the kit, and Peter decides to retail it, it will be tested over and over again before released. Plumbing, Fuel Management, everything, you name it, it will be tested. Peter has a name to uphold, and would not spare any cost on making a quality item. For those of you that knows his products, you know they are considered very high in quality, and are dyno-proven for gains.
I know him mostly from the IS300's he's worked on. Plenty of them at the track last month at MIR. I saw one run 11's, yeah I was impressed! I'd be curious to see the plumbing as well. It's already a tight fit as it is.

I don't think the Z will have a problem of becoming a Civic market. For starters the entry price into a Z is about $26K and to get a Civic you only need $11K and of course that can be less depending if a customer wants to just get a used Civic. Also, parts on the Z are going to be much more expensive anyway, and parts on the Civic are so dang cheap because of economies of scale. Also, if your name evokes quality, then you can by default charge a higher price because some people will be willing to pay a higher price just for the name alone and what it stands for. I wouldn't mind a single turbo setup on the car: I'd much rather have more bottom end power than top end and a single turbo can do that. So if I were him, I'd take the risk because the payoffs would be great.

As with anything, there is more to PF than one is first led to believe. As a long time FD owner I've seen and even dealt with PF before. PF had quite a few run ins and even legal battles with customers over the years. I just want anybody thinking of doing this be fully aware of where their hard earned 6 plus grand is going. You should do a search for Peter Farrell over on the RX7 fourm at www.RX7Club.com use what you find to come to your own conclusion. Of course there are two sides to every story but both parties posted their side so it should be up to you to decide. I found a site by a fellow FD owner that shows both sides pretty fair so you don't have to dig through alot of stuff.

I would consider the Peter Farrell kit, the price range is correct for a turbo kit and he is known for hig quality products. Single turbo is also what I would want.
The projected HP numbers are great for 6-7Psi daily driven also. I give a green light.

This mess and court case even existing is bad news to me. I would not be willing to spend any money for a product and get a pack of troubles legal or otherwise. Since PF initiated the court proceedings it appears he brought this upon himself. IMO
There are to many other turbo options coming down the pipe for me to consider this one. Two other guys just on this board recently wanted to develop a turbo for our car.
