Default Large Intercoolers and Crash Bars

Hey Guy,

For those who have elimated or modified your crash bars to fit your larger intercoolers. Have you seen anything out there that can replace this?

I got into an accident about 4 months ago and I had modified my crash bar to fit my PL intercooler on my car. The damage pushed all the way up to my fender causing my to replace the light and fender (no frame). I am not in a habbit of getting into accidents but this was a low speed accident (5-10mph) and I dont want to ruin my car in case of another accident .

Chances are that the aluminum crash bar will offer very little protection in an accident anyhow, but I know that Forged fab'd a custom bar for XKR's G. You may want to PM him.

thanks... well the crash bar is really only useful for low speed accidents to prevent damage to the core support/fenders. which is where i saw most of my damage.

There is nothing commerically available.

jut notch your stock bar and reweld it, or have someone make a new one out of square bar. The APS TT install guide shows exactly how to do it properly.

XKR's supprt is behind the IC, its for stiffness not protection.

^^ +1

beat me to it...
OP its going to have to be a custom.//semi diy job i think....you'll have to look for a bar that can offer some protection.....maybe a solid tube and see if you can mount it and work around the PL FMIC....
This is a risk many take FI....at least you had something better than almost most other with decent FMICs have

I have a failry large IC and still have my crash bar in place

yea, anything over 5mph that bar isn't gonna do much anyway...chances are, as long as your IC is mounted securely, it gives same protection (or maybe even more in some cases).

well im relying on my driving skills and braking to make it a low speed accident but that extra protection can be the difference in just replacing a bumper and replacing a bumper, radiator, core, fender, lights, grill...etc. aka $300 repair to $2000+

im going to get one custom made then. thanks for your input

some tubing, bender, welder and some plate mounts should be cheap and easy to fabricate.

Just copy what Quamen did but bend to fit around your particular FMIC. simple

I don't know how much space Z's have, but on my G I was able to fit a 32"x12"x4" intercooler without touching my crash bar.
