Default Jay'Z Built Engine Health Diagnosis needed!! Engine Builders Opinions Pls!!

I am noticing this noise become more prominent and not sure if its coming from the cam area.. Is this noise normal on a built engine? I would like Engine Builders opinions and Built engine owners opinions.. Id like to be reassured its healthy.. Its been about 30k miles, the car is running normal at 35-40psi oil pressure at idle, 170-190 water temp even on hot days, and 15psi high boost.

Vid of noise..

Hmm...sounds like a normal built motor. I do hear some piston slap or valvetrain type noises, but nothing really alarming.

This was an SGP motor, if I remember correctly, and so far it seems to be holding up well, making good power, good oil pressure, and low oil consumption. I wouldnt worry.

Ok, thanks.. They didnt build the engine it was done at some shop in Houston, SGP just put it together, and I saw the heads etc were wrapped in plastic/ built from what I saw..

g and g did all of there motors. assembly, balance, blueprint, setting cold lash, porting of heads, everything. all sgp did was bolt the head to the block and set the timing chains up. anyone that needs a good vq machine shop, go to them. joe is the owner, tell him jtran sent yall!

Thats exactly what I saw/thought...... I kinda knew SGP only put the new heads on, re installed engine etc.. I knew they didnt actually build it.. But they never told me that.. I just figured it out..

Hmm, yeah SGP led me to believe that they did all assembly themselves. Well, it's best that they didn't considering the cleanliness of their shop

Sounds great to me.

My stock heads make more noise up top than that, but I think it's mostly the injectors.

If you close the hood and walk back about 10 feet and can barely hear it or not at all, then you should be OK.

I wanted some opinions from Builders/Built Owners, as I have never heard any other built engines on idle close up.. Thanks though!

I do, I just dont want to ignore if its bad and end up with a blown engine.. Now is not a good time for me as I am relocating to TX..

Jay, my vid is on page 32 of my thread. I thought they sounded similar, but after listening to yours again I would say that mine was MUCH louder, it sounded like a tractor motor .

Well if a stock block (mine) sounds like a tractor compared to yours, which it does up close, I'd hope that eased your fears a bit. Anyhow, good luck anyways!

Sounds like a built motor with aftermarket cams and injectors.

I have BC-Stage2 cams and HKS injectors (1000cc) and at idle you can definitely hear some valvetrain noise with the hood open and hovering around the top of the engine like in your video.

If you have healthy oil pressure and good power under boost, not burning oil or any smoking or missing coolant,... then I vote no worries and enjoy the car

Ok, anyone care to post vids of their engine on idle? Just for true reassurance....
