Default Oil Change

Hi, Im running low in oil on my new z and im going to change the oil within the next few days. I have searched the forum and found that most people with a similiar setup uses motul, redline, ect 15w50. I have a built motor with greddy tt's. I dont know how many miles it have on the motor nor do I know what the original owner used. What oil and what weight would you suggest. This is a daily street car.

Shell Rotella T-Syn 5W-40 or Mobile One 0W-40

Use these specific weights.

After m-a-n-y searches on the Internet, I've learned that most synthetics are nearly the same. The major difference is their price; if you run into a sweet sale (i.e. a special sale), go for it, dude! Just be very faithful on the intervals and follow the instructions in the manual for oil-weight purposes.

Those weights for those specific brands performed better. I am going to find the thread where all of the information was posted. It may take a while, but it is worthwhile. That thread was very, very informative.

Not all synthetic oils are the same.

This is from Resolute in post #50:

Shell Rotella T-Syn 5W-40

Motul 8100 X-Lite 0W-30
Motul 8100 E-Tech 0W-40
Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40
Redline 10W-40 (I know it's not very impressive in the stock VQ, might do better for the FI guys since it's geared more towards their needs)
Mobil Delvac 1- 5W-40 (Mobil1 Turbo Diesel Oil is the exact same stuff, 26% Esters!!)
And, if you can't already tell, Resolute knows his **** about oil!!! I don't know this for sure, but I would wager that he is a chemist.

Why is your engine low on oil? Are you monitoring oil consumption and checking the level weekly?

I take oil analysis with a big grain of salt. The best analysis is done on your engine oil rather than drawing conclusions from universal averages.

Mobil 1 oils have always burned off in my engines more quickly than Motul. Again your mileage my vary and if you are happy with it's performance then stick with it. All of our built engines run motul 15/50 in warm climates and 10/40 in cold/winter temps.

agree with Sharif about mobil 1 0w40 "burning off" in my engine..I then started using Torco..but 15.50 a liter is damned expensive...I am thinking about going to amsoil...a case of oil and two filters for 161.00...

So what are others opinions regarding amsoil? They have been around for forever and I have read a lot of good stuff about it..not 100% convinced yet though..
