technically you could get insurance to replace it bert.. it is a damaged part to your car due to road debris .. it amount of money they are going to give you for the OEM Bumper and paint would cover a V2 with canards
Ive contemplated this but I also dont want my insurance to go up for a claim. They could pay for the diffuser, and bumper/paint but I dont know if I wanna go that route. Thanks for the info on the vendor Doug.

That's the least of your problems, my friend...Imagine a blow out of one of your front tires at those speeds, a deer crossing in front of you or, worse, a human being. Speed kills. Drive responsibly, dude.

a blow out or a deer at 65 mph could be fatal also

Ive thought of the consequences. No need to remind me of the variables that could end me, this was simply a thread to share my experience and remind people with cut bumpers/lips to be extra careful.

Worst case I would have taken myself out and no one else, the same could have happened at a track on a back straight, but that is neither her nor there.

Did you get the drivers seat stains all cleaned up after hearing that crack at 160?

Wow...... Thats exactly what I thought it was too.. Downforce.... What was the lip secured by double sided tape, bolts, or rivets?? Fawk good thing you didnt spin out of control and get hurt...

The lip was secured with 10mm bolts just like OEM all the way under. In addition the lip was also bolted to the inner fender well plastics. The more I think about it, I feel the lack of grill in the bumper really caused it to lose its rigidity, flex and cause stress on the center portion of the bumper. The lip only put more stress on it. But after this situation I wouldnt run another lip, it couldnt have been more secure and still it took off.

Ok, I was asking what was securing lip upward toward the open grill area and bumper cause i see no bolts or holes in ur bumper like my OEM w/ lip(Nismo lip i have requires 2 holes on each side under the headlight area).... That OEM grill does hold it together too...

Ill show pix of what i mean...... Brb...

V3

I see those speeds in my sleep, and the bumper holds great. not to mention the sex factor to the V3 style...

do it...

Its the V1 and V2 I like. If the V3 is the OEM Nismo front, no thanks and no offense! Id rather drive with no bumper and suck in small birds, trash and children.

wow Alberto,
I actually had almost the exact same thing happen on mine at same speeds....Bumper stayed up but its pokin out by the corner marker lights.......

I attributed it to the lack of center support too....eek

IIRC, every doubling of wind velocity results in 4x wind load..Going from 20 mph to 40 mph results in 4x the wind load at 20mph. Going from 40 mph to 80mph is another 4x the wind load. Going from 80mph to 160 mph is another 4x wind load...So from 20 mph to 160 mph gives 4x4x4 or an increase of 64 times the load at 20mph...

nice staying alive! good thing you didn't panic brake or something!

i agree with your assessment of it being the lack of the grill... in the 4-5 months a year i drive the Z, i hit those speeds most nights out... i have stock bumper with kaminari lip, no removed grill.

alberto, glad you are ok....been in similar spots and its instinct that keeps you alive...caus eyou dont have to think in 0.01 seconds of time you have to make a decition...though it feel in slow mo...anyways...
Id say do V1 or V2, dont worry about the blackrook and handles...and just get a cage when you can

Wow! That is some scary ****. I also had the grill cut out on my OEM bumper and never thought that this could happen. I'm glad I got the V2 now.

Cool info! Thanks for posting.

Jay-the lip was also bolted down in those spots on the end right inside the liner.

I really want to put a front end on it, but the hood/car in general is in so so shape. It would look worse with a shiny new front and a banged up/dinged up hood, fenders, dings, scratches lol

Be careful out there guys, obviously Im not the only one who has experienced this to a degree!
