Default Finally: GTM Stage 5 + E-85 + G35 = Awesome

Just wrapped up some tuning today with Hal and I have found a few things out

1. The GTM Stage 5 was only a slight upgrade from my APS Extreme TT, it actually made less power at the same boost.

2. If anyone tells you that E-85 is like running 116 octane then punch them in the sack, its more like 105 octane but at least its $1.99 a gallon

3. My car has serious electrical issues

Anyways, the car put down 640 DD on a couple pulls when the motor was still cool, but eventually settled at 628.1 whp, the 1200cc injectors were at 95% duty cycle so we kind of had to kill it there. The biggest issue is the steering knuckle still wont clear the exhaust housing even after all the spacers were put in and the knuckle was machined down on a lathe. Hopefully I can figure out a solution or just stack another set of spacers on it.

The car does feel awesome and pulls like a bat out of hell, I also think I set a record for "Pump" gas on a 3.5L

GTM Stage 5, E-85, and Haltech

APS Extreme VS GTM Stage 5 (apples to oranges comparison)

The Vtc randomly shuts off and the only way to turn it back on is to do a wot pass to redline. It also has a random misfire at 3800 rpm

Traction control is for the weak and easily frightened.

nah, JoeK ran like 680 on 'pump' e85. Hit the exhaust housing with an angle grinder.

How do you qualify the GTM as a slight upgrade? Less power, more problems, worse fit, more expensive....

Its crazy how much fuel e85 needs, 95% IDC on 1200cc injectors with regular gas would support well into the 1k mark.

Are you getting the VTC solenoid CELs? Thats what went when I fried my stock ECU and UTEC.

Sounds like you are almost there. Those turbos should easily dyno 850+ on E85 when you get your fueling and electrical sorted

OP, what is your end HP goal? Are you going to go with bigger injectors?

it was at 22 psi and the tq was ~522 ft lbs

You can see the cam signal on Haltech Monitor, it will go off for a pull and the car will feel like a big single Supra, then after that pull on decel it will magically turn back on. There are no solenoid CEL's but I am going to replace the whole wiring harness and those solenoids this winter.

I think people are also forgetting that Wongy's G35 put down 639 on this dyno with twin 67mm turbos, a 4.2l, and pump gas, I would say this is a pretty good number for what I have
I don't really think the turbos have much more in them on E-85, maybe 50 more horsepower if I am lucky

it would be interesting to see the APS xtreme dyno over the current dyno to see the power band, the ones I have seen of the extreme seem to have been a little laggy

I'd say at least 150 hp, and possibly as high as 250 hp.

Here's why:

Unless someone is using Nitrous or a pre-oxygenated fuel (like top fuel dragsters), the primary factor that determines your hp is the amount of air that you can force into the engine, assuming that you have the appropriate amount of fuel to achieve the necessary AFR value.

Per GTM's website, your turbos are GT3082 0.76 A/R. I don't see them listed on Garret's website, so I'll use the GT3076 compressor map for reference. Each of your two turbos will push 37 lb/min of air at 77% efficiency, and 42 lb/min at 65% efficiency. That is a total of 74 lb/min and 84 lb/min, respectively. Now your GT3082 turbos are bigger that the GT3076 turbos, so your air flow capability will be even higher.

74 lb/min of air is good for about 890 crank hp, or about 820 whp on our cars. 84 lb/min of air is good for about 940 crank hp, or about 870 whp.

To acheive that, though, you need to flow enough fuel. Perhaps you can add a second fuel injector to each intake runner, or go with even bigger injectors. I don't recall which EMS you have, but I beleive that the F-Con can be configured to controll two injectors per cylinder.

OP, I have a spreadsheet with a fuel flow calculator I created which you can play with. If you want a copy, PM me your e-mail address.

+ 1

We have made 682 RWHP 563 RWTQ @ 19 psi using 109 gas with the GT3076 and those turbos were still a sleep
