Default Another Votech G35, Uprev Tuned

Hey guys,

Posting up my newly completed Vortech G35. Mods are:

2004 G35
Vortech Satin Kit
3.12 Pulley
Uprev Osiris *Tuned by Uprev's Jared
DW 600cc Injectors
Walbro Fuel Pump with the CJ mod
HPX MAF Sensor
Zentronix Wide Band
Crawford High Flow Cats
X02 Exhaust with Magnaflow X pipe
Cusco Sway Bars

Final Tune: 370.37 Peak HP and 323.27 Peak TQ on a Dynojet.

I did the work except for the tuning in my garage with some hand tools. This forum was awesome. I couldn't have done it without the search function! Let me say that whoever says they can do this install in 8 hours is a freaking master mechanic. The clearances on this kit are SO tight that I am still amazed I was able to fit the piping in and that connectors aren't getting eaten up by the COG belt.

Jared at Uprev did the tuning. He was a stand up guy. Worked hardcore all they way down til the tune was done which was past 10 PM. Also, for anyone going to Osiris, the stock MAF maxes out really fast. We found out after the first run the maf had already maxed out.

A couple pointers on the install:
1. You can't change the pulley out with out pulling the blower, so definitely change out the pulley first, i learned the hard way.
2. Run the oil return line over the intake piping, the clearance is too small not to do this.
3. GET A CATCHCAN. It's really annoying to get oil blowing out the BOV.

A couple pics... Also, thanks again for all the help!

Nice install and numbers! You can replace the pulley with the head unit in, you just need to remove the jack shaft pulley.

Oh really? I couldn't get the pulley off for the life of me.

Little over six lbs, but the HFC's bring that down quite a bit and i was getting slippage on the belt, what a pain that was.

Hmmm a recent trend (Chef-J not included)...low boost at Uprev in Austin.

Nice numbers on six lbs though man! Congrats!

nice numbers for a 3.12 but i think your boost should be higher. i was seeing about 9lbs on my 3.12 with headers, test pipes, and full exhaust.

also, you have oil coming out of your BOV? That isn't from piston blowby, that's usually from a leak in the supercharger. When you get blowby it goes straight into the plenum, not through the intake piping.

I used to get oil spray from my BPV until I changed out the vortech filter for a cold air setup. The rear driverside PCV hose that hooked up into my filter was the cause for my problem. My old filter would get dirty with oil, but not anymore.

oh crap, i completely forgot about that vent hose that the stock configuration puts on the filter. I have my own filter on that vent hose so I didn't even realize this.

yes, if you get blowby there then it would suck back into the charger and the intake piping.

yep, that hose is kind of a pain. As far as the boost, i'm pretty sure most of it is belt slip. I'll get the GTM mod sooner or later.

just tighten the belts. I had slip until i realized my belts needed to be a lot tighter. I used my 2.87 for a long time and was only getting slip past 11.5psi before i put my gtm pulley on. Anything smaller than a 2.87 you shouldn't need gtm mod to stop belt slip, just tight belts.

old thread but r u telling me that u ran ur oil return over ur intake pipe..god i hope i read that wrong cause that is ghetto, there is plenty of room to run it under and down...also u do not need the gtm pulley mod with the 3.12 pulley and u should see all of 9 psi with ur exhaust setup just tighten the belt..i see 10psi with berk test pipes, motordyne xyz and a nismo cat-back on the 3.12, and yes the pulley can be changed with the blower on

are u seeing that boost on ur boost gauge or on their screen? do u have a boost gauge in ur car?

Just saw this post and wanted to see how it was running any problems over all impresions? Plus this makes me look forward to getting my car back from UPREv.

Overall the car is running great. about 11k since I put it on. I had to go back to Uprev for a couple little tweaks, and they took care of me with no charge. Stand-up guys there. I bought the kit used off the forum, and the owner forgot to mention the bearings were bad, but you live and learn. Couple things that I have run into or had to deal with:

1. Had to go and tighten belts and bolts from time to time, definitely more maintenance than one would think or than i have read on the boards. I have a turbo prelude, and would say the up-keep is about the same as a turbo car, IMHO.

2. Had the Vortech Tension pulley seize up at high RPM's. 40 bucks for a replacement. It causes strange vibrating when accelerating

3. GTM Pulley Mod - I did a ghetto version using a focus idler pulley, but it worked and cost 25 bucks. Although previous posts say this is not necessary, I think it is. you don't have to tighten the belt like crazy with it.

4. Vortech Whine - It's louder than expected. I wish there was a way to make it quieter, but i guess that's the price you pay for performance.

5. The G35 stock bumper just isn't made for the intercooler. Going to have to get an aftermarket one sooner or later, which costs more $$$.

6. Stock clutch is holding up just fine for now, which is amazing to me. I've been looking forward to getting a new one, but no excuse yet.

7. Had trouble with "warm" start up, it would need alot of pedal work to get it started with a warm engine. Uprev fixed that real quick.

8. RPM's bounce slightly because of the vortech, which I probably wouldn't notice except the whine and exhaust note resonate together, weird, but forgiveable.

9. The Vortech belt rubs "slightly" against one of the silicon couplers. Looks like it's not going any deeper than a notch, but it's still annoying. I've tried to reposition the pipes, but still tight.

10. Last thing, the crankcase venting that vortech tells you to do is stupid. You get blow by. Definitely do a catchcan, even a home made one and use some of the routes that are posted on this forum, they work much better.

Honestly, these are all pretty minor issues. The car drives well and has amazing pull past 3.5k rpm. I wish i had more time to tweak it to make it perfect, but as is, I'd say 8 out of 10.

Sorry for the late reply. I think i should have clarified about my oil line. I used an APS oil pan which is directly under the SC, so my "route" is a bit different. I run it straight down from the SC to the lower pan. The problem was that it got wedged between the frame and the charge pipe. Not doing anything ghetto at this point.

I do have a boost gauge in my car and use their program to see it as well. They match of course since they tap off the same line. The boost has gone up near normal since the GTM pulley mod. I didn't want to over tighten the belt since the startup sounded a bit strange.
