My 2010 Build, APS Twins
Last edited by Goo$e; Apr 10, 2010 at 01:36 PM.
I've been real busy with my business, so I haven't had time to drop any more parts yet. I did remove my center console to work on a cubby guage pod for my dual wideband gauges, though. I'm going to glass it, so I'll try to post some step-by-step pics.
I cant wait till this is done. there is way to many Z's in the dayton area and not a single one is modded haha. If you need a hand with anything just let me know. My vortech install on jack stands got me pretty familiar with that engine bay haha.

I guess you missed the part where I've been a member of this forum for 8 years. That's less than 3 posts per day.
Anyway, calling BS was retarded regardless of post count.
I don't plan to, unless I run into trouble. I've seen people do it successfully without pulling, so I'm confident I can do it. I have really small hands and arms that squeeze into unbelievable places. I used to be able to do the spark plug and header swap on an LS1 with no problems

Pull the motor. You'll waste tons of time trying to get the manifolds + turbos on the motor and tight. It's a challenge to tighten everything with the motor out of the car, let alone in the car. Installing it with the motor in the car is just asking for problems down the road.
Ok, I started building a prototype out of cardboard during the playoffs last night. Instead of filling the whole cubby, I want to leave some room on top for an iPod, or cell phone.

I'm going to head down to the hobby shop to pick a material to fabricate it up with. since this is so boxy, I don't think fiberglass is going to be the best choice.

I talked to a former co-worker of mine who's pretty familiar with fabrication work. I'm gonna get in touch with a machine shop to see if I can get this gauge pod done up in aluminum, then anodized black. I'm thinking it'll look pretty slick, if I can get it done for a reasonable price.
No more pics of that untill something usable is in there

Ok, I got my Innovate DBs in today, and started playing around with the center dash again. I had ruled out using the top 3 stock gauge slots before, but now I'm back on it again. The bezzel and face of these guagues looks great behind the silver trim of the stock location. Long story short, I may be bringing all 5 gauges into the center dash now.
Back to the garage, I decided for sure to pull the motor. I'm tired of borrowing engine hoists from people, and I know I'm going to need it at least 1 more time when I do a build, so
I'm picking up some new toys today:
1 Ton Foldable Shop Crane
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=93840
Transmission Adapter for CA 3 ton jacks.
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=95640
And borrowing a 1000lb Engine Stand. Funny thing is, I used to have one of these sitting idle, but I gave it to a friend when I moved out of state

This is not a dreamer thread, but I am starting it a bit early. I've been collecting parts, researching, and planning since June, and I'm almost ready for the actual install. The car is up on jack stands right now, and I'm slowly starting to disassemble things, but it's cold as hell right now. It's no biggie to me though, The car won't see the street untill late march at the earliest anyway.
My goals with the car is to make a fun street cruiser (weekend warrior, whatever you want to call it). It'll be more go than show, as I want to retain a clean, simple look to it. It already has some audio work, and will receive some more. Some nice wheels and suspension will round off this turbo build as well.
Power Goal: ~400whp.
Hitting 400hp is not important to me, but having a conservative tune is. I'm running on the stock block until next winter, when I plan to build. How much I build depends on how well the business does this year
* = purchased
-* APS TT tuner kit, Old BB turbos. Bought used off of a reputable member here
-* APS 3.5" down/testpipes
-* Custom 3" dual exhaust with Tanabe exits.
-* Forged actuators. w/ 12psi and 7psi springs.
-* AAM Stage 1 Fuel Rail Return System
-* Walbro 255lph
-* RC 750cc Injectors
-* TurboXS Utech
-* Autometer Nexus Guages
- Custom Oil Cooler
- Koyo Racing Radiator
More to come, as I get ready to actually get everything in the car.

Call me a pessimist of a realist but I'm having doubts. Nothing in any of these pictures signifies the validity of this thread. Only things removed are the bumper and hood. No parts except a couple fuel rails on the plenum.
Not trying to question your integrity but ****, how many of those threads have we all seen...
As for pulling the motor, I was on a lift and I got about 85% through and had to raise it a bit. On jackstands, I'd recommend you pull it. Expect to spend a lot of time in awkward positions wiggling and hoping. I was standing, you'll be laying down. Better start hittin the gym.

I was planning to document everything as I went about getting the swap done, since I'm doing most of the work myself, incase it could help someone else in the future. There are a lot of pics of my camera that I have not posted, since they would be out of place without a "deliverable".
If the consensus is that this thread is unnecessary and invalid, I can take it to cardomain or something I guess
Let me know.

I'm not trying to knock you down, man... I would just be satisfied to see some parts I suppose. Now, I realize you have absolutely nothing to prove to me. But I am we, the community... If I were you, I'd tell me to F*** off lol. I just have doubts. You've been on here since 06, I know, that you know, how many of those dream big threads there are... It's all good man. Do what you do. I'm a d*** by nature lol

I'm a software engineer so I know it's not tough, but I'm running Linux and this cheap camera's USB subsystem keeps throwing errors. I finally got it though, so no worries!
