Default Aps single turbo, any happy owner?

I have had nothing but problems with my APS single turbo kit since i bought the car.

I was wondering if any one has had the kit and has had it for awhile with out any major problems. I hear so many bad things about the kit from none aps owners, so any comments like that, I heard them all, and makes me sick to know I have the "worst kit" for the z(or atleast how people portray the kit as). One day i hope to be a none APS owner an be another APS hater lol. but until then I have to deal with the problem.

My problem is the turbo consistently leaks oil even after 2 rebuilds in the last 1000 miles. I have added an extra oil supply restrictor, got a new pump for the kit. rated at 3galons a min(I don't know if this could be the problem cause I believe the pump that comes standard is only 1.2???gallons a minute), also i run the scavenge pump after shutting off the car, for a brief period of time, and still no luck.

I am looking for someone that has had a good experience with their kit, so that I at least know theres hope for me. I can almost promise you this is not a repost because I have been searching(even reading the same threads over and over for any info i missed) for the last few months.

thanks for any help

oh no i have. i want it. and am thinking of buying one. i just bought the car with the kit on it. i didn't put me wanting a TN kit in the post because i didn't want people to start talking about thats what i should replace it with. i would rather just keep my current kit, if i can make it work

car i almost bought before this had the TN kit. I just read way out dated posts about how the aps was such a great kit an how it was going to be the better one of the two.

OP, try PMing Driven1 for his experience. He has the APS single and drives his car like he stole it. I know he has had some issues in the past specifically related to the turbo, so chances are he may be familiar with your issue(s) and could possibly offer some solutions. Best of luck.

seriously, TN.... you have no idea what problems are.

I installed and APS single on a car a few years back. The only problems with it were:
1.) it had the original style oil solenoid, that was swapped out
2.) crossover pipe cracked at the flex section and that was replaced at a local shop.

other than that, it was great. Owner of the car drove it harder than I have ever seen a car driven....honestly.

I am thinking your rebuild was not done correctly. If it was, you have some other issue going on that you are not aware of. Like I said before, you don't have a clue what problems are if you think a TN setup is the answer

edit:
reading further into it, what oil solenoid do you have? Do you have the updated electronic one? It seems that when your car is shut off, oil is still flowing to your turbo, which was characteristic of the original solenoid.

yeah i havent dont that yet. I will longer down the road. I was (before this tread) almost certain that it was something with the kit, and i didnt want to pay to do that untill i had found the bigger problem.

If you have the orginal valve, I am 95% sure, replacing it will resolve your issue.

any APS vendor should be able to get you one.

I have an APS selenoid, PM me if you want it. It came with the Corvette TT setup, and the guy parted out the kit. It was never installed.

I choose not to run the selenoid, do to frequent failures I see at work.

I got the aps single and im extremely happy with it considering what it was designed for. 430whp/430tq on stock block for 30K+ miles. as long as a competant installer does the work there really arnt too many problems. Only issues ive had are a cracked flex pipe after 20k miles and a host of tuner/installer issues. the kits a good design, are there better now yes but im happy

never ran the aps single turbo but i had the aps twin setup for a good 10k miles and now have been running the aps extreme kit for a while and cant complain about anything as far as the quality and craftsmanship is concerned. There may be guys hating on APS who have a single kit but i'd be surprised if you could find even one person who is running either of their TT kits and is not satisfied with it.

My APS single passes oil and has since day one. Not a ton but enough to be kind of annoying when driving long distances. My crossover pipe also cracked and I actually melted rear sensors and a portion of main harness out in Vegas doing a little drifting at LVMS. I have the upgraded scavenge pump, upgraded exhaust housing and run anywhere from 9-18/9psi (depending on the gear).

I just replaced the crappy flex pipe (not the crossover pipe) b/c it cracked as well. When this happens you'll see a slight drop in boost. Going to do a hard pipe in due time ...but time is not as open for me as it used to be and that's going to take some fabricating.

My oil consumption seems to drop when the car is tracked or driven very hard and then goes back to the usual 1/2qt every 300 miles (or more).

My car does not leak externally at all. In my case it's "where the F is this oil going!? grrrr". The next thing for me to do is the restrictor and then.....well Im not too familiar with the solenoid issue so thanks for the link guys.

if your car is using oil when driven hard... well that is kind of how it works with a turbo setup. If you aren't seeing puddles or clouds of smoke out the tail pipe, you are just fine. If driven hard, 1/2 a quart in 300 miles is acceptable.

Its actually opposite. I see hardly any consumption when driven hard/tracked and more when just cruising (normal driving conditions). No smoke, no puddles, no clouds.

I've never had any problems with my kit. No oil dripping or anything. Actually the only oil leak I've ever had was when my APS oil drain plug threads were stripped.
