Default What to use to Cut Aluminum Bumper Support?

Greetings, Well, I am making a custom Intake for my Vortech, and part of filter is obstructed by the Bumper Support. I simply wanna just cut a piece off but still retain the support.

I seen people do it before, what do you guys use?

its not a smart idea to cut the bumper support. youre going to lose the structural integrity. figure out a way to work around it. It's going to be hard to cut the support anyway.

A dremel with a carbide cutting wheel can work the aluminum bumper support.

It cuts easy - a portaband or sawzall will do great. If you cut it, make sure you resupport it somehow!

Sawzall, disc grinder with a cutting wheel, plasma cutter, dremmel or if your hard up a hacksaw.

Personally i would get rid of that mushroom of death and get a smaller K&N and shorten the intake tube instead of cutting the bumper support, it would be simpler as well.

Any non abrasive cutting tool will do. You can cut with an abrasive disk but it will cut like crap, stink and be a PITA in general.

Out of all the options I read here sawzall may be the best one.

Thank you guys for all the support and replies. I used an electric grinder, the cuts, weren't to clean but it made quick work of the aluminum and once the foam was on, you cant tell anything.

As for the intake, the pipe already pretty small, there is not much room to work with. If anyone wondering about my intake, it just a long coupling, a 90 degree pipe and a HKS Filter.

Here are some pics as work in progress, I will post completed pics also, once I also install my Oil Cooler as well.

I would've just gotten a k&n filter and angled silicon coupler from siliconintakes.com and moved the filter to the side and up. $50 and 5 mins work.

That would have been nice indeed. But like I said, the fitment is pretty tight, these parts are just acouple of leftover parts I have laying around.

Finished pictures tomo, I have also mounted my oil cooler on the Support Bar.

Nice follow up, though I don't know if there's much reason now to keep the front bumper support at all! I guess it'd still help a little.

I needed something to mount my Oil Cooler too. And also, it supports the bumper so it doesn't sag or move so much on the highway.....
If you ever remove the bumper, you notice it is only supported by 6 clips on top and 3 small bolts on each side.

Anywho, mounted my oil cooler, I wanted to center it, usually people mount off to the left but that looks tacky to me.

And pretty much finished picture of install.

Well, my oil sandwich needs additional fittings (90 degree 8 an) to finish up my oil cooler. I decided to just take the cog belt off the supercharger and run the oil lines back to stock. Until I get my fittings, also ordering a steel braided return line.

Soo, within a week or so, I will give you guys an updated as far as driving impression with everything hooked up.

I had to modify mine to fit my intercooler. I used a plasma cutter then welded some of the pieces that were cut out to support it by keeping the box shape. I would support the two pieces together if you could, even if its just self-tapping a piece of angle iron or something to give it some structural integrity. If you get in a wreck your bar is going straight through your condenser and radiator...
+1 on supporting the bumper.
