GTM has detailed pics of what they did on their website. All it is is a pipe reroute thru the center of the timing cover.

I seen the pictures but I am not following. It seems like they did some cutting on the block also. Is this right? I want to know what is the diffrence with this modification compared to the nissan pathfider mod. Which one is keeps the engine cooler? The price diffrence is 400 bucks.

just click on more pics. i dunno what the pic of the cylinder is supposed to mean, but thats not DIY or even doable without a full teardown of the motor

Otherwise, you are just not using the water pipe on the side of the block. Its just reroutes it thru the center.

All that work just to hide a coolant tube and they still couldnt do a wire tuck

Is it that the pathfinder mod is for the DE only and the GTM mod is for the HR

Either way, IMO the GTM mod is ugly as ***** . Sorry Sam & George.

no the GTM mod is for the DE's. you cant do both. The pathfinder mod will allow cooolant to the back of the motor. The GTM mod looks just like a pipe location mod. Dunno what those cutouts are though..

here's what it is:

1) the picture you see where the block is machined......that is if you want to use the HR headgaskets on a DE motor. The HR gaskets change the way coolant flows from the block to the heads.

2) the other HR cooling mods bascially use the the HR coolant pipes to eliminate the the coolant pipe on the passenger side of the DE motor. I believe it also makes it alot easier to purge the coolant system when you use the front piece that mounts in front of the timing covers. The HR has a taller deck block than the DE....and the heads should be a bit further apart than on the De due to the overall change in deck height. as such, the outlet ports on the DE heads either need to be opened up to fit the HR rear coolant pipe or you could cut the pipe, shorten it, and rewelded it.

If you have ever worked on one of these DE motors, you know what a PITA that side coolant pipe is....when you have turbos mounted on the car! the bolt on the underside is a pain to get to. that's why I cut my pipe into a shorty pipe and use a longer section of flexible coolant hose. of course, if you do that, then you also need to perform someother bypassing of other sections of the coolant system.....lol.

Years ago I stopped using that bolt to hold the coolant pipe to the cast outlet.... Since the pipe already has a bolt in the front to secure it to the timing cover that will prevent it from sliding out !

ha ha ha i'm just waiting for someone to wipe my *** for me.

looking at the JWT instructions or PDF's, i think it would be possible to do the Pathfiner mod AND the HR mod if there is enough space under the intake runner. you'd have to use a brass tee or something like that to join all the components at the rear of the engine-which could mean more coolant leaks... i wonder if it aids in cooling enough to try... why not!
