Default ahh bummer..... are my turbos garbage/needing rebuild...?

okay, i have a 07 z, and getting a custom kit installed. Twin precision sc60. im using one oil scavenge for the driver side turbo, but i have it Y piped to the other turbo. car was turned on before for about 20 seconds to test for leaks and we had a turbo manifold leak, so we fixed that. today car was put back together, and car was running for about 20 secs, and the installer noticed oil on the Downpipe. looked back (car was in air) and there was smoke coming out ( burning oil ). car was turned off ( total time on was prob like 30 secs.) Oil was dripping out of turbos. We think its a bad pump, becuase the chance of both turbos having a bad seal is unlikly. Checked all lines and no lines are tangled or anything. We took off the air intake on the passenger side since it easy to get to, and check the front of the seal on that turbo and there no oil, so it dosnt look like the seal is blown. No way to tell if seal is broken till we try it with new pump right? So we are getting a new pump and will be in thursday morning. My question is... what are the chances of the turbos being garbage and needing a rebuild? (im not paying for it)

thanks for your time.

You will likely be fine. It is best to wash your exhaust out or keep in mind it will take a while for all of the oil to burn out.

Too much oil pressure or too much resistance to drainage - one or the other... Hopefully the pump is the issue. I agree both seals going bad at the same time seems unlikely but I think thats what happened to Blackbird's twin Gt35s.

His seals were bad? I'll suggest that to him, but i'm sure he Already looked into that tho. How would you change oil pressure or resistance to drainage?

What pump? BB or JB turbos? Restrictor?

Was the pump hooked up backward by chance? Were the in/out ports on the pump reversed by accident? Too many variables.

may be a restrictor problem.

It's just a narrowing the reduces oil flow rate = "restrictor". Some turbos have restrictors right at the entry port. My jwt kit uses a restrictor near the high pressure source (at the OEM oil pressure switch/sensor). Look up "smoking" and "APS" to go through that kits issue with oil leaking...

how big is your oil sump reservoir before the pump? mines about 0.75 qt.

OP is not answering the questions we ask.

What pump? Oil supply line size? JB or BB turbos? Restrictors?

If the suply line is -4an and no restrictors the turbos are geting too much oil and the pump can't take it all away.

FWIW, the oil seals in a turbo aren't there to keep oil from going into the compressor/turbine housing, they are there to do the opposite. They keep exhaust gases/compressed air from entering the CHRA. When oil enters the CHRA, centrifugal force slings it onto the walls of the CHRA where it gathers and drains down the oil drain line. If the oil drain line gets clogged then the oil level inside the CHRA will rise and simply start seeping into the housings. It's a normal occurance and will rarely cause any damage as long as you don't leave it like this for months at a time.

Advice freely given is rarely valued. Too bad.
