Hmmm I don't think we wanna look at this as a percentage gain situation. I think we need accurate numbers because, in this instance, if you are TRUELY getting 190 HP to the ground, with your S/C you just gained almost 60% (~110 HP) to make 301.

By that math, If I dyno at a TRUE 240 rwhp I'd get 384 rwhp with the Vortech blower.

Can that be correct??

IF their readings have always been low, why don't they get their dyno calibrated? I think vortech has the money for that? No?

I dont think it is accurate to adjust by hp gain and then add it onto what we think the baseline should be (ie shows 190, should be 232 etc).

This dyno is pretty far out of calibration I think. To get an idea, if 190 is what they got, and most Z's meet or exceed 232rwhp stock, it would be over 22% off. Maybe the gain (based of of 301hp) is off too and they are getting more than a 100hp gain or less than it too?

Regarding the dyno. This is a Mustang dyno. The same type that was used in the infamous 300WHP N/A Z's. The important thing is the percentage of change. Not what the dyno numbers actually read. It's about what I'd expect out of an 8PSI unit, assuming approx 8% HP increase per PSI.

The only problem I have with that dyno is that it looks like they lost some serious power until around 5230 RPM. Me no likey that.

Yes, but in the infamous 300whp pull, everyone thought it was too high and this one seems too low. I have never heard of anyone pulling less than 230whp on a stock Z not alone 190whp.

the dyno that vortech uses is a Mustang Dyno. It puts a load on the car which results in even less numbers then we are use to. It is not out of calibration. It just reads it differently. A 60% increase in power is about 380 if you were to figure that plus or minus. This would be about right if you were to figure that the ati puts a proven 360rwhp with 1psi less boost. just my .02

oh and the way i read it it has not lost any power or torque anywere the two lines off of 1705 is the vortech the other two are base because not one of those two lines go over 200

The two lines that reach the two highest points both belong the the supercharger. One is HP and one is torque. Use the "max power" and "max torque" numbers to figure out which graph line is which. Vortec has more torque than stock at any RPM.

As long as the dyno has a linear response to torque inputs, then the "percentage of change" is a legitimate way of analysing the data. However, if the dyno is that far off in accuracy then I would question its linearization factors too.

My bad, I was reading the graphs wrong, the torque curve looks freakin awesome. I labeled it for better viewing.

Assuming you are correct about the dyno and it produces lower numbers, then doesnt it seem really odd that the pull we are talking about before (300whp) that made so many question it because it was too high conflict with the dyno giving lower than normal pulls on the Vortec? If the dyno is in clailibration, would it consistantly give high or low pulls but not really high pulls then really low pulls?

I know this will be a popular SC kit and soon we will be getting owners posting their Dynos as well with different dyno machines.

One thing odd, I noticed about the Vortech dyno's is that they have 0 pounds for the weight of the car. The infamous N/A dynos used 3000 pounds for the weight of the cars. This could have some effect on the reasons why one read high HP and the other read low HP, just my WAG.

I may be remembering incorrectly but aren't we talking about two different types of Mustang dynos: The first (and questionable one) being a mobile dyno and the second being a stationary AWD eddie-current dyno??

jesseenglish:

thanks for labeling and posting the dyno results and the wt of car factor is an interesting variable.

the only thing I can say is that every dyno is going to be different. Mustang dynos are wierd in there own way, but for the most part a 60% increase in power on this dyno will problaby show a 60% increase in power on the dynojet we are use to.

If you go to the Mustang dyno home page they describe the mobile dyno as using the exact same dyno equipment, just put onto a trailer.

Yes, every dyno is different, and the generally accepted rule for HP increase is 8% HP per PSI of boost added. So given that number I would expect to see aroung a 64% increase in HP, so 60% sounds about right especially once you figure in parasitic SC losses.

I forgot to also tell you that I think the sq supercharger is about 15% more effiecent then ati c2. Read it somewere and it might be bs. I would really like to see a side by side dyno of the two from the same dynometer. that would be awsome. Hey were are you sport z magazine !!!! Try to include vortechs and greddy will ya!
