Default Turbo question

A friend and I have been having a heated discussion regarding s/c vs turbo. My opinion was that a s/c is safer than a turbo for our cars if operated at the the stock power levels. He felt that a STS rear mounted turbo kit would be safer than say a Vortech S/C. He thinks that the S/C belt could break and damage the engine, which I thought was crazy ... same as if any of the other belts like the alternator belt would break. I feel that a S/C is a safer form of forced induction at the price of lower HP and a less desirable power curve then compared to a turbo.

Am I wrong in my thought process?

my cog belt frayed, slapped up some wires and fried my stock ECU and my UTEC. nice 1000$ repair in parts right there. So your friend is right about the belts.

On a stock block, turbo or supercharger doesnt matter as you are limited by the rods and can make 400 ft-lbs with a good curve on either setup if you know what you are doing.

It's all about the installer and tuner.. Either or is fine when installed and tuned properly..

One other consideration is with a SC you really have to redline the car or shift at higher rpm to really feel the power. With a Turbo you can shift at around 5000rpm and still have fun... just my .02

Rear mounted turbo kits are pooh.

Both set ups could be tuned too aggressively for the octane and cause an issue.

I've driven both (vortech T-trim tuned to ~400whp and my own TT setup tuned around the same) and to be honest I am glad I went with turbos.
