Default engine management

very confused here. trying to get a better idea of tuning for FI.

i got the greddy TT tuner kit with the 20g turbos. dont know if that has anything to do with tune though.

my understanding is.. the engine management is only good as the tune.

my option are osiris uprev. tuner around here locally, but want to avoid due to bad rep.

also cobb, with a tuner down in portland which isnt too bad of a drive and of course utec.

i have contacted all of them and all seem very confident.

just was wondering which egine management i should go with??

thanks

the ease of control and support from Haltech is well worth the price. Hal from Injected

A lot of people are having very good luck both with UpRev and Cobb. They are both good products. I would choose your tuner first, and then go with his recommendation.

I have an F-CON V Pro, and I still bought the UpRev re-flash system so that I can play with little things that the F-CON does not handle, like my idle setting and the phasing on my intake cams.

my main problem is finding a tuner.

seems like if i got with haltech i can fly him out here. not sure the cost on that, but cant be too cheap.

for utec there are a couple guys here in WA that tune de's. but have NO idea who to go with.

so leaning toward haltech cause seems like Hal is awsome tuner.

also, my TT is going on a stock engine. so probably run 7-9 psi. again depending on the tune. But is it a waste to get haltech when pushing just 400whp?

please be patient with me lol thanks!

FI is a scary world when you are on a stock block, lol...

Haltech is a good choice. It was a little new when I bought my EMS, and still had some bugs to work out. If I had it to do all over again, I would go with Haltech instead of HKS. The HKS does not seem to have as much built in functionality, so you have to buy a lot of other parts, and that gets costly.

If you are going to go FI, I would recommend that you save up the extra money that you need for a built short block. Import Parts Pro has them starting around $2600. Some people get by fine with a stock block, but a lot don't.

The Haltech will cost you nearly $2,000. It's nice, but if money for this project is really tight, save $1200-$1500 by going with the UpRev or Cobb, and put that money toward the short block. You can always add the Haltech later on down the road if you want to. That will be much easier than changing out the block when your stock motor blows.

There are plenty of UpRev and Cobb tuners out there. You can fly one out to you (assuming you have a dyno available locally), or ship your car to them, just as you would if you buy a Haltech. I own the UpRev system, and I have seen Roger at Japtrix tune with the Cobb, they are not difficult to use. Any competent tuner should be able to use them.

a Greddy Tuner kit has no business being installed on a stock short block. Everything about it is strictly geared towards being used on a built short block.

Your best, and most cost effective long term option is this

1. buy a daily driver
2. save for a built short block, done locally, by a machine shop you trust
3. save for a Haltech

Those are the best steps towards ensuring that the expensive turbo kit you now have actually is able to be used, vs causing havoc. By the time you're done with all the ancillary stuff that you will need to safely run that kit on the car, you'll find the Haltech and built block don't amount to a ton of extra cash outlay, and they go a tremendous way towards ensuring that all the money already spent is not sacrificed

? While its most advisable to get a built short block with any FI, if u have a conservative good tune all you can do is hope your motor will hold up. I know few ppl with the greddy tt kit on a stock block running just fine. Try not to skimp out on the accessories for safetyness and it'll help you run on ur stock block. I went through the same problem as well and decided that Haltech is worth the money for the functionality and knock detection it provides.. Good FI system is gonna need a good brain. Haltech FTMFW!

Being that you have already purchased the 20g Tuner kit, you will need a solution to fuel and engine management. This can be setup to run safely on stock engine, and there are a few paths you can take depending on your goals.

I am available for travel tuning as you noted, and have responded to your pm.

Is there any twin turbo kit that will suit the stock short block better?

best thing for stock block is keeping it N/A... PERIOD.... with any FI kit you run the risk no matter which one you choose..

So use what you have and just take all the precautions/enjoy..

The ProEFI offers many more features than the Haltech and the quality is second to none. Also, Hal is now an authorized ProEFI dealer so he can still do your tuning if so desired.

Here is the current ProEFI dealer list:

Now that is a real nice addition to the dealer list and this update makes the ProEFI 128 hard to ignore. Hal, save me a unit - I'll be coming your way soon!
