Default cheap gauge alternative (water/intake temp)

Not sure if anybody's seen this but it seems to work pretty well and it clears engine codes too.. it plugs into the obdII port and get all the data from the ECU. real time.

http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm

can't beat 40 bucks

I set mine for engine temp and intake temp read out

You have to keep in mind that not all of those 74 possible gauges are available from the Z's ECU. But you can't beat it for a real-time monitor and code reader.

I already have an OBDII recording device (Davis CarChip) but ordered one of these to use with all my cars.

Cool. It would be nice to know what all it reads in our ECM's. They don't have the z listed on there Gauge Availability Estimator, but it looks like it works. Man if it would read my wide bands I get this bad boy.

If you're talking about the OEM wideband O2 sensor, then yes it should read that. If you've added your own, no it won't see that because that doesn't run through the ECU and is not available from OBD.

I think I may buy it just to read codes. And the "sale" ends tomorrow with the price going back to $200. Not sure how true that is or not.

EDIT: Just ordered mine

Cheap ELM327 are $20 shipped, if you have an Android (Torque) or iphone the programs are free and do the same things and more including logging and trip location mapping.
TORQUE in my Z is only able to read coolant temp, air temp, individual cam timing, tps, load, rpm, fuel trims, and a few other values from the ECU though, and a component status widget.
PLX bluetooth OBD reader works much better with the programs, but at a cost.
Pfft.. marked down 80% $40 is good though.

Just did a quick search on ELM327

I didn't see a screen or anything on it showing codes or how to clear them. Am I missing something?

Remember, it doesn't read AFR, it only reads the voltage:

•Bank 1 0xygen Sensor 1 Voltage
•Bank 1 0xygen Sensor 2 Voltage
•Bank 1 0xygen Sensor 3 Voltage
•Bank 1 0xygen Sensor 4 Voltage
•Bank 2 0xygen Sensor 1 Voltage
•Bank 2 0xygen Sensor 2 Voltage
•Bank 2 0xygen Sensor 3 Voltage
•Bank 2 0xygen Sensor 4 Voltage
