Powerlab GT35R Single Turbo Kit Results
I've been looking for a good quality turbo kit that has accurate horsepower results, great quality and fit, and longevity. The kit that has peaked by interest has been the Powerlab GT35R Single Turbo Kit but I have heard of fitment issues and poor quality from the experience of a tuner in Kentucky. I'm sure all kits have some issues but they seem to think that this kit hp results are overstated and they often had missing parts and fitment issues. If anyone has used this kit, can you give me your results and opinion on your purchase. If anyone else has an opinion, it is greatly appreciated. The tuner recommended either Greddy or Boostd turbo kit. The advertised Powerlab GT35R Single Turbo Kit results seemed really good and seems to have similar results then TT. Thanks in advanced, Bert

You may want to do some reading and go back to some very old threads . You will see a pattern of shops doing research and developing a turbo kit for our cars. These shops put alot of time and effort into developing them . So every shop will say their kits are top notch and produce great whp . But as more and more of the kits are installed by a variety a shops , problems arise as you would expect . Some shops do what ever it takes to make sure they fix the small problems with the kits , some dont . Shops will suggest the kit they are more comfotable installing or make the most profit from no matter if its the best kit or not
Every shop and person with a certain kit will say its the best kit and more than likely exaggerate the whp numbers a bit to sell and make them look good .Many shops will do anything to hide an unhappy customers from the rest of the web sites from knowing whats going on when problems arise and a customer is having trouble getting a problem resolved .Mnay shops have gone by the wayside and closed up because of being active on web sites . Some rightfully so....some not .
Be careful and expect a few problems to come up . Its the way it is in the F/I world

it really depends on your goal. If u arent planning on building your motor then the gt35r makes great pw. If u are wanting to make over 500whp on DD (pump gas) then it's not the kit u want. I would look into the mid rear turbo setup or TT before picking the powerlab to reach +500whp on pump gas (dd).

lol, true, maybe one car won’t make 500 whp on ONE dyno on PUMP gas… so, run E85, or meth injection, or race gas… or just get the PowerLab kit with the optional 37R turbo. I personally would be more concerned with what mph I’m trapping rather than what one dyno says lol…
With that said, I know of a few local Z’s and G’s rolling around here with PowerLab single turbo kit’s on for a few years now, and they’ve had zero issues with the kit (exactly why I picked the PowerLab kit for my car). And my brother and I installed my PowerLab 35R kit on my G35 without any issues in a garage over the course of a few days with basic tools, no lift was needed. Fitment was spot on, quality was great, and car is running solid right now (with the exception of the OEM clutch w/90 k on it, lol). I’d make this purchase over again, no hesitation.
I made 354 whp on a 100 degree AZ day with 4.5 psi. Just waiting on a boost controller and new clutch before I retune and up the boost.

Well, I’ve been running PowerLab kit for 2.5 years now on stock motor in my Z, I’ve logged over 30k miles on it since it’s my daily and I take it down to the drag strip every chance I get. There’s nothing overrated about this kit, on less than 6 psi I’ve consistently dipped into the 12’s and trapped 116+ mph at Firebird in AZ. In the 2 plus years I’ve had this setup I’ve never had an issue. Of course, to go along with any kit you need invest in a good EMS, I’m running ProEFI.

I have been running the power lab for ~2 years on a stock block and then a built block without any mechanical problems. The kit is an excellent choice for the stock block crowd; it can easily make the 400torque/400 whp goal and make power from. ~3000rpms-redline. Header wrap the hotside piping and you will have not problems with rattles or odd noises. If you are thinking about building your engine down the road then I would go for the gt37 turbo from the get go bacause the gt35 will run out of steam at about 500 whp (pump gas) dynojet on a good day. And with only a few people reporting on the GT37r setup, I would guess to say that you will only achieve ~550-575whp (pump gas) dynojet. These are fun power levels on daily driver vehicles but don't expect the same power levels than a good twin turbo setup will provide without changing turbos and piping on the powerlab kit and/or running a second tune for race gas.

I probably wouldn’t attempt to push those numbers without meth injection, E85, or race gas anyways. I can’t imagine there are a lot of people trying for 600 wheel on just pump gas with a twin turbo kit either.
