Chances are that you have some bent valves if the crank snapped, also I am sure the block is scared up. That looks like the oil pimp pickup seared off.

Tell your wife she did all this damage when she tried to start the car. Ask her if she turned the key to the left or right. When she says right, tell her the Nissans are different and can shred motors if not started the right way. Tell her she can make it up to you later.

This is gold. I would so do this, but I know that my wife would not fall for it.

so that ticking noise you had..... Do you think it was actually the damper or the engine going on its way out?

It was the timer counting down... the ticking stopped and then BOOM

hmmm..I had this similar problem, GT-ER. It started off with ticking.. I got lucky and I was able to spot the problem and the ticking went away.

What happened was that my crank pulley came loose, slightly. making the ticking noises. It took me for ever to figure it out.. when the ticking was happening somehow my eye caught the crank pulley, it was wiggling. I jacked the car up tighten that HUGE bolt ( ud think it would never come loose, your wrong ) and everything went away.

You may have had the same problem I did and just didnt see it and then this happened ( which I could totally see )

Not much you can do now though.. you have an excuse to built it lol.

ya def pick up that other motor for $300, as long as it didnt spin the bearing a ruin everything as well. You wont have a useable core for exchange otherwise and the shops usually charge 1500$ for the core. Sucks because your timing stuff is prolly blown (another $700 to the build)

Good thing you already have the quotes so you should be back in business in a few months. Maybe someone will have a built longblock with pans, timing, and covers instock.

Why no good as a donor core Rich? Think the main bearing surfaces are scarred?

i guess it depends on what the shop deems as a useable core. His motor locked up hard enough to stop the crank and shear the crank pulley apart from the inertia of the belts. who knows how bad everything is inside. But some shops might just want a block with no holes in it and cylinders than can be rebored. depends where he goes.

If the 300$ motor only had a bearing let loose, well you would know more about how reusable that is (unfortunately)

I live in Puerto Rico guys so me buying an assembled engine is out of the question. I need to get a block locally and build everything myself.

Exactly...lol...it's expensive and slow. I once had a 90lb manual tranny shipped to me via ups and it took a month and cost $120. I don't even want to know how much an engine would be.

regardless, I'm building it myself.
