blowwnn motor? :(
After 68,000 miles on my G, wit 40,000 of those miles been supercharged.. i believe my motor is blown..I never got a tune after getting the 928 IMpeller upgrade, not sure if thats needed, but i believe that coulda caused it. It has been in the shop for almost a month, and i have not gotten a clear response on whats wrong with my car. At first i thought it was a clutch issue, i had a new clutch installed for 500 miles. Suddenly after driving it hard one night, it started making this nasty CLUNKING sound whenever i get past 1800 RPMS, the sound is so bad its unbearable to even drive. I cant hit boost either. I took it to the shop that installed my clutch, and they told me it wasnt my clutch but my tranny, so i took it to the tranny shop across the street. He said he has never heard that sound before, he took apart my tranny, said it looked fine, and said my clutch discs might be bent, so i sent my clutch to ACT and they said it was in perfect workign condition. Now hes telling me it has to be a blown motor... so i think its time to go with a built motor... would it be cheaper to buy a shortblock from a vendor? or just buy rods pistons online?? im looking for a cheap build, just the basics as i dont plan on making crazy power. i was planning on going twin turbo after i built my motor, but due to financial reasons, i am keeping my vortech and hoping to make close to 500whp with it..
You're learning the hard way.
Take the car to professionals. Who ever did the 928 impeller? surely he advised to tune accordingly and the ones who diagnosed the failure doesn't sound qualified either.

I'm with Cass on that one, if he can't figure out trans/clutch then to motor, a red flag should go up.
Cheaper way would be certainly to just rebuild your motor with rods and pistons. If your looking to pull any sort of big number or your hard on the car, a built shortblock from a vendor is important.
One thing I will say with building motors over the years on various cars, deal with a reputable machine shop. If your having any machine work done/ assembly, even by vendors on here, ask how long they've used that machine shop for, then call the machine shop to verify...
I deal with a local guy who has built all our big blocks and small blocks, very very rare to have an issue with him, but it can happen and if it does, it's how that shop handles the situation after an issue that really separates the boys from the men. Naturally I contracted him to build my VQ motor also because of my confidence with the many other motors he has built for me. You don't want to spend alot of money on parts only to have something in the machine work or assembly cause a failure.
I have no personal experience with Kyle but have heard alot of good things.
Just my $.02, but i've had to learn the hard way on other cars, and have found with the VQ deal with people who know motors in their sleep.

maybe, but most likely that will only tell him if a bearing is spun. he could have bent rod and the pan/filter would be clean

Great opportunity to build a motor, or buy a built motor that will stand up to the power you'll make later if you go TT...
And you have to agree with others here, get it into a shop that can tell the difference between a tranny problem, a clutch problem, a blower problem and a blown motor and get it done right. GL.

Also a great opportunity to post up a new thread, not take the advise listed in it or even reply back to it for that matter, and disappear for another 3 months until something else is broke
