Generally, what's more noticable in a DD?
30 more HP or 30 more Torque?
I could either get Vortech (3.12 pulley) w/ ~390HP/310Trq or for ~$3K more (final cost including install, get HKS SC (modified, not base HKS) w/ ~365HP, 345 Trq.
Above numbers are very rough ideas, my car can definitely put different numbers... I'm just using what I could gather from other posts.
I know Turbo can provide both, but I'm focusing on SC at the moment.

If your really that worried about power then forget about a SC and go turbo. Youll make equal trq and Hp. I have several friends with Vortech SC's with various pulleys and my crappy TN setup eats them for breakfast from any speed. Vortech is easier on a stock block though. But with me, if im spending alot of money I better be going real fast.

Higher torque is more noticeable on a day-to-day street driven basis, especially since you'll spend more time at lower speeds and feeling acceleration over top-end speed.

True, but if cops pull you over and give you ref ticket, then you're screwed as you will have to get rid if everything and bring car to stock... It's a chance people take, I just don't want to take . It's prob a very low chance, but all I takes is a cop to hear your bov or suspects you have a turbo and you're down tons of $$$

seems like a lot of hassle, but I'll look into it more. I think it'll be difficult since I my license is already Cali. I think they want everything to be registered to state in 6 months or so.. but I'll see thanks

928 impeller
3 K for maybe an additional 30 ft lbs seems a bad trade-off..Consider the 2.87 and the 928 impeller for less than a third of 3k and get conservatively about half of the 30 ft-lbs...Of course a dyno tune will be necessary regardles of what you choose...

TQ is what makes cars fun when not redlining everywhere.
And what most forget is the area under the peak is what makes a huge difference when racing as well, especially when two cars have similiar peaks but way different curves.
Thats why peak numbers dont mean squat to me, look at the curves, especially the TQ thats more important IMO.

I'm Starting to feel this is the way for me to go. Re impeler, I guess I need to get it from 928motorsport and just exchange it out w/ the V3 SC trim? My only reservation would be that te extra 10-15% boost on the stock 03 engine may be too much (2.87 pulley will def not help
I'll dig around and see how people are setting up their cars w the 928 impeller/2.87 pulley. Maybe I should get forged rods?!

boost does not equal HP. it took me 17psi on my stock block V3 Si trim vortech to make 460/405 on the dyno dynamics. 17 psi on my turbos was like 550ish on the same dyno.
the new V3's have revised impellers, so you'd even have to see if the 928M ones fit. they were made for V1/V2 SC trims. you'd wanna make sure the volutes didnt change.
Trq is what can make your car undrivable like XKR's car. 2 cars with similar trq peaks would be way offset in HP. more rpms for same trq = faster car, but like you said, probably not as fun on the street without brake boosting.

Your numbers w/ the 17psi on stock block w/ V3 Si trim are very impressive, but aren't you concerned about the increased pressure on your stock engine? I thought the non-rev engine's weak points were the rods and around 400's hp, (and ~>12-13 boost psi) you would get worried about bents rods. That's why I'm entertaining the idea of HKS SC, which claims to have higher torq for lower boost):
GTM stage 5 for example:

The kit does cost a penny, but to me seems to deliver pretty descent numbers on the stock engine

I could alternatively go for the Stage III which is a bit cheaper and just a bit less torque/hp

If I can get same torque profile w/ the vortech, I would be much more for it. I think there were some dyno's by other people w/ vortech, but from what I remember, they had to have very high boosts to get the torque.
Alternatively, having low compression engine or breathing mods such as header/HFC will prob help reduce the high boost from 2.87 pulley...
There are times when I think I should just sell the car and get a car that already comes w/ turbo But I like the Z's too much to let go
