if you dont overtension you will never break a cog belt.

Curious, if the new one breaks, what happens then?

ya I never had a cog belt break on me and I dont really see why it would unless u over tighten it. It doesnt really have that much stress compared to the serp belt but for safety I would have paid the extra buck (cheaper than replacing the cam sensor and ecu if the cog belt breaks).

How tight is too tight.. cause my tensioner is all the way down, and I can still move the belt side to side on the pulleys...

1/2-3/4" play DEAD COLD. Check after HOT, Belt will tighten up a bunch after getting up to full temp, Belt should still have a very small amount of play, not tight.

Mr. ****,

I was told by Gates, "There is Nothing Tougher"....

The 400% came from a Global Power Transmission & Belt Suppler. I spoke with a very experienced guy in their Technical Dept.

If it were 50% Stronger I'd buy one. I ordered mine yesterday. (Huge difference) 50% is the same difference as 600HP is to 400HP, Is that's Huge?

I'm researching to get actual Data.

I've spent many many Hours Researching all different types of Belts available for different applications, for a project I may do in the future.

As their is little Interest in This Belt, I may just give everyone the P/N's and Source, then they can just buy it from them.

The Info is out there, you just have to work at it a little....

Not trying to be argumentative but since when does heat make a polymer contract?

Also, the gates belt should never break unless grossly neglected. It occasionally needs tightening and worst case scenario will lose some teeth. It should be inspected regularly. Its also a good idea to have a spare in the glovebox with the wrenches needed to change it out. Especially if you are not accustomed to regularly checking it.

im in the market for some more belts because i just noticed my last one had a tooth or two missing. Sadly many of the sites to purchase them are blocked here in "Undisclosed location" that im currently deployed to.

the best price i have been able to find is $22ish. I did see one for $18 but cant get to that site. Anyone know any places online that sell for around $15? I found a place a while ago that sold it for around $12-15 i think. it said it was for a washer or dryer, lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mitch

Hi Mitch,

Fact: When the car is up to Temp, Cog Belt is Tighter. Do a Test you will see.

Fact: Some people on here have broken belts, of corse from improper adjustment, (Too Tight Cold) so they do Break.

Given enough Load, everything has it Breaking Point.

I was doing research for a stronger belt because I'm Building a Custom YSI System for 30-35 PSI.

I thought I'd let people know what I found, but Little or no interest.

Thanks,

TimRod

Keep us up to date on the YSI system...I'm curious to see how much mods are required to fit that blower in the Z...

^^+1

I was thinking about trying to make a YSI fit but it would be pointless with a 6-rib setup.

A YSI shouldn't require a ridiculous amount of work to fit. I compared an S trim to our YSI and it wasn't to much larger.

^hah, I've been saying that for 3 years. At worst you'd have to trim the radiator support and move AC lines. good to see someone step up! :thumbup"
