Question 96mm VQ35DE head gasket

Hi Guys, just a quick question. I was going to use the HR head gasket in my build with around 550-600 rwhp, but with a 96mm bore can that still be done or something else recommended.

Thanks

Aren't the Cosworth's the same as Cometic gaskets? Or did I imagine reading that somewhere?

Yeah I read the same many times.

As for HR I know it will be strong enough, but what to do about the larger bore ??

Other than that one thought I had, I'm really not qualified, or familiar enough with the subject to offer any more insight.

With an HR head gasket you also will require additional machining for the cooling passages in the block. I think Cosworth makes their own HG now and no longer just rebrands Cometic gaskets, thats what I was told in talking with cosworth reps about a year ago.

Default HR HGs.

To use the HR Head gaskets , you need the block machined and the HR Headgaskets bored out ot match what ever oversize piston you use. GTM can do this work , I had them do it on my LB.

Thanks, so I can just have my engine builder bore it out then ??
What type of machining is needed to the block ??

Thanks

Does anyone have a link to the mods that is needed for the cooling when using a HR gasket on a DE. I'm going for max 600rwhp so an HR gasket will be plenty and the extra cooling is nice.
Thanks again

I looked at a GTM build with 96mm bore and they use the HR gasket, and that is what was recommended to me by several people when I asked around here in the forums a few months ago, so I hope to use it still.
Any other thoughts about it ??

So it seems like I just have to have them cut down 11-12 mm is that correct, and on how many places is that cut needed ??

Please perform the HR mod. This will save you from another break down in the future.

Thanks John, I guess we should be able to get that taken care of then. Just hope my engine builder have not bored out the cylinders yet then, or can this be done even after ??
Also does anyone know how much better the cooling is after it is done ??

Thanks

You will not have issues with 96mm and HR head gasket, thats what I did. I did not bore the gasket, no need, but you should defintily modify the entrance of the coolant passage, you can do it before or after boring the cylinders, since they are not really related.

How much better? Well think of it this way, the DE gasket has passages going on just one side (one cylinder), the HR gasket has passages on all cylinders and also on the exhaust valve side, in addition to that by modifying the block, more fluid will flow. In my opinion, its a huge benefit. I have not had a single cooling issue, even with stock radiator. But I am only at the 400-450whp range.

Thanks a lot for that info, just what I needed
Oh well only time will tell how well it will work on mine then, and my engine builder just got back pistons and bearings from coating, so this week the build starts, so I better get that HR gasket ASAP

So apart from following http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/wol...HEAD_BOLTS.pdf and making the walls at each cylinder is there any modification to the gasket its self? And with HR head studs are there HR main studs or do i have to go ARP for that?
